Hi,

I have gathered some info on Hanno Prettner Super Sicroly II - 3rd at F3A World Champion 1973, 1st place at Tournament Of Champions (TOC) 1974 etc.
If You have any pictures, any interesting information, personal experience building/flying Super Sicroly II please share it here in this thread.

I have so far gathered VTH/FMT drawing(s) of Super Sicroly II, found some pictures here and there and last found (after long search) a new in box MK Super Sicroly II (sold by Simprop in Germany but manufactured by MK) that I post a picture of below if anyone want to see such kit.
If anyone have Model Airplane News (MAN) construction article of Super Sicroly II it would be very nice to have that in this thread. I have not MAN drawing of Super Sicroly II but if anyone have that it would be nice to compare with VTH/FMT (FlugModel-Technik) drawing and MK drawing that I post pictures of below. What drawing of these 3 is closests to Hanno Prettners built Super Sicroly II is hard to tell I guess.

Equipment Hanno Prettner had with his Super Sicroly II at WC 1973:

Engine: Webra Speed F 61 RC
Retracts: (I have not found what make and model he used, but KDHmecanical gear is mentioned in RCM&E construction article)

As far as I have researched Hanno Prettner entered WC 1971 with Super Sicroly Iand that plane developed toSuper Sicroly II to 1973 WC and was also used at TOC 1974 (in 1975 he had Curare at WC and probably at TOC 1975 also).

Hope this information and pictures belowwill be of help to others.
And as I wrote - fill in with more information You have on Super Sicroly.
When I will build a Super Sicroly II is not decided finally and I have not decided if I will build from VTH, MK or MAN plan, or maybe I will build the MK kit...(but that feels little hard to do considering it can not be many left in new untouched condition).

absolutely fantastic info! With it we should be able to complete the Hanno lineup of reduced scale models. Aside from the SS, the only missing link for which we could use some more info is the Sensation.

I've been flying a Super Sicroly 2 from the RCM&E plan, which is an all wood version, the MAN plan is foam wing only. Both are a little different around the nose to the MK plan you show, and all are slightly different in tailplane plan view to Hanno's model as seen in the photos. Mine uses a Webra '10ccm' with muffler and is a very likeable model, not, I think, quite up to Matt's Super Star 2, but close enough to give it a good run. I like it just a little better than Curare as it is not quite as fast, but easier to get along with, it 'feels' slightly more solid in the air. Flaps work well, and will slow the model down very well, but I find a good nose up trim change with flaps down, like Curare in that respect. I have just got back from a good mornings workout with Curare so the feel is from a close relationship with both models. I still prefer Atlas above all of them, but Atlas is from the same time frame as Curare, and really if you want to compare models of the same time frame then Sicroly is up against Superstar, and Superstar is my favourite model of the period. Hard one to beat. I believe that the MAN and RCM&E plans are still available, and I can try to find the magazine articles, if you wish. I have a Sicroly 2 plan here (RCM&E) and it can be copied, if needed.

It would be great if you can find RCM&E and MAN construction articles of Super Sicroly II. I have found RCM&E plan now of Super Sicroly II and ordered a paper copy at RCM&Eplans service http://www.modelflying.co.uk/news/article.asp?a=5497
I could not find the MANplan of Super Sicroly II at Model Airplane News plans service at http://www.airagestore.com/planes/plans.html(I searched for sicroly, prettner etc and also manually browsed through all categories but did not find the plan). If You have a picture of your Super Sicroly IIand want to show it here it would be nice to see it.

As far as I know the Super Sicroly II was never published by MAN, just RCM&E August 1974.

Hi BEM,
Wow, thanks for all the information. I never knew MK kitted the Super Sicroly II, but always wondered since they kitted the Atlas. I'm not sure if the Super Sicroly II kit ever even made it to the USA (at least via an importer). Your kit looks pristine and it must be at least 35 years old. I am a little disappointed as I thought I had a complete (or nearly so) collection of MK kits, now I'll have to really search for this one!!. Would it be possible to get a copy of your plans, at my expense, obviously?

Sorry Ray, MAN May 1974. I have both mags to hand and will do scans to pdf tomorrow at work. Won't add much knowledge to what is already known, but will put most of what was published in one place. The MAN article has an interesting photo of an inverted Sicroly, without the 'II' on the side, and full span ailerons, no flaps. I have, somewhere, an FMT article showing an early Sicroly, again with no flaps, and a really young Hanno. Again, like Superstar and Curare there is a development line leading to the 'definitive' version that we know and understand as the 'actual article', but then I remember a 'Super Sicroly 3' piccie somewhere, and it had an anhedral tailplane...

I agree about the Superstar. Best flier of the bunch. Mine had fixed gear so should be even better with retracts.

I've sent Bo pdfs of both articles to add to his collection of info.

This is the shot mentioned by Evan. As you may be able to see - no "II" and no flaps.

Knew you knew RFJ, mines a Superstar 2 with retracts, my, how the 2m bunch dislike it. Keeps beating them in comps. Just looking at that MAN article, the last photo of a very young Hanno standing behind his Sicroly, again no 'II' and if you look at the shadow of the wing, no flap extensions there, either. I did do pdf's of both articles today, but you beat me to it. Now I just have to take a photo of the thing and try to post that, instead. Don't let our rambling on deter anyone from building a Sicroly though, they come out under 7lb RTF and are lots of fun, bit busy in the circuit if you like that sort of thing, wheels and flaps to manage, pretty ugly on the ground, but quite shapely with everything up and as rapid as you would want.

This one. Look forward to some shots of your SS II. I'm afraid my MkI (Sprengbrook, HP 61) is long gone. Was a very popular design here in the early 70s and I never saw one that didn't fly well.

Nah mate, and the wheels are in the right place, and you get full marks from all the judges takeoff and landing, when they see the wheels disappear, then reappear. They sound right, and they don't look like a Cub neither...Yeah, OK, Airsail stickers, but I got 'em cheap and they look better with than without, besides Brian's a mate, sort of, and he don't mind the advertising. Reckon I'm on a winner all round really...

If anyone want MK Super Sicroly II drawing in high quality TIF format 400 dpi I have itnow.
I made a scan yesterday. I have the drawing in PDF also. I also scanned the wingribs and stabribs sideview from the balsa and plywood sheets from mykit since they are not on the drawing - I have them nowin TIF's and PDF's. If anyone should need a canopy for MK Super Sicroly II it is in my kit a new orginal canopy so if You know a good reliable canopy maker I could send it to such person and have a mold and canopy copies made.

And if you know someone, or can get, a standard 12" bubble you can simply cut it in the right places and use that. I have used this idea to produce canopy's for Sicroly, Blue Angel, Curare, Atlas and a couple of USA 1 C/L stunters. Your local hobby shop might even have replacement canopy's for 2m glider kits, Great Planes probably have hundreds of them. These are always useful for some of the 'straighter' types.
