Today at the field I was offered, and snapped up, a new in box OS .61 Special Edition Gold Head! Tools, bolts and carburetor are still stapled in the original plastic bags.
This engine has never seen a mount, a bolt or a glow plug.
To top it off, when I got home from the field I had an e-mail waiting for me with an offer for a beautifully built, glassed and primed Midwest Mach 1.
What a day!!!

Nice Score
Last lime I saw one for sale was in my local model shop in the 1980's ......I was a apprentice my budget would not strech that far back then []
It is amazing what shows up for sale at a Club Field or a Swap meet My $50. Blue Angel came from one of these.
Good to see that every bargin is not on a Auction site.

That's a nice engine!! I've always liked that engine. I had one NIB that I got a few years ago but wound up having to sell it [&o] ...I hope I can get another one sometime..
The fellow I sold it too said he had a Mach 1 in mind for his too...Kewl!! That seems like it would be a really nice set-up... [8D]
Good Score...

RE: Score!
I really wanted one of those guys when they made them, around 1987 or so?, but had just made a purchase of a Hanson Tipo. Cost me 129.00, shipping included. Tough choices we face in life.

RE: Score!
So what was different about the gold head version of the OS .61F SR, other than the gold anodized head? I had the plain head version and it was a very good engine.
Boy would I love to stumble across a Hanson Tiporare in good condition! I'd pay twice that much for it, gladly.

RE: Score!
Nothing. The gold edition was just a commemorative happy trails end to the FSR era. The FSR's, you remember were so popular and I think the 61 gold edition went for around 160 or 165 bucks or so. I can't get over how many spin off brands were inspired by the bore/stroke/porting of the OS MAX FSR series.
