It looks a little small to me to be an Escape. Wingspan is 58"-60". I was thinking maybe a Tiger Tail or Bootlegger. The fuse is all wood with foam/balsa wings and tail. Power is Rossi and has Dave Brown retracts. Does anyone know if Northern Cali has any Classic Pattern events as I will want to go to some when the restoration is complete.

While I agree that it looks simular to an Escape, there are some differences. First the vert fin blends into the fuse and is constructed of sheeted foam. The Escape appears to be built up wood and is of a flat section. The Escape fuse seems to be longer and wing pacement on the Escape looks to be more mid-wing. Could I have a later/earlier varient?
The biggest reason I would like to nail down exactly what it is, I plan to do a complete restoration and would like to duplicate it's designers color scheme.

Speedr... First thing is to get rid of that POJ Rossi. I'll send you my addresssince I do collect scrap metals. I have NIB ASP .61 ready go that I would even trade for it if you really feel that Rossi is worth a few dollars! (kidding naturally)
Nice find though, very nice. I was leaning toward the Bootlegger until I saw the tail stab intersection; now I somewhat agree that it's perhaps a modified Escape/XLT/UFO. Again, if you want to junk that Rossi.......

I would say it’s an XLT with mods, definatley a Bridi inspired design, really need to take some measurements off the plane and compare them to a set of plans. I think I have a PDF of the XLT for you to look at. Remember pattern fliers of this era were always playing with things. I would build a design over and over always changing things looking for more flight performance and a better model. I’ve done the blend in fin (ala Curare) on many of my modified designs. <o></o>

Bem my blue xlt you have pictured and the red one of K. Hoards are both flying at the BPA event in Huntsville AL . this very weekend. How funny that you used them as examples....

Rossi a POJ? I have a bunch of Rossi's and By far they are the best glow engines I have.
Properly run they are powerhouses. Many people make the mistake to try and run them on high nitro. They run terrible. Rossi built in Italy are designed to run with little or NO nitro.
That looks like an bridi escape to me. It just was very well built and the builder took the time to mold the vertical fin into the fuse. Nice work.

Ha Ha It was the Rossi that sealed the deal for me. Took it all apart and gave it a really good cleaning. Looks like it has seen very little fuel. The bearings had no rust, just a tad on the backside of the crank. Got it all clean, oiled and re-assembled. Carb looks small compared to the Rossi .45 on my warbird racer but does have the remote needle setup. The header is a Rossi peice and the pipe appears to be a Supertiger unit ( removeable tail peice )
Tomorrow I will start taking the airplane apart and get ready for the tedious job of sanding all the old paint off. The original wing is beyond repair but it came with a set of sheeted cores pre routed for the retracts and aileron servos.
Not too shabby as I traded an electric Katana for it that I was trying to sell for 175.00

I was unaware of the anhedral for an XLT. I love the looks of anhedral BTW. I was just going by this photo:

One thing is for sure, it has some Bridi in it. So it will fly quiet nicely....

First big hurtle, the new wing is of a different airfoil so I have to repair the old one. Here it is shown in a vaccum bag as the glue dries. The section has been cut from the rest of the wing to do this and will later be re-attached along the cut line with CF spars top and bottom. Interesting fact is the AMA # of 210. Is there any way to find out who's AMA nimber that is? Will be hitting the AMA website next

AMA would not give me direct info for a member I was looking for, but they did contact the member and gave him my info. He called me within a half hour of trying to locate him. Hope you have the luck I did.

Called the AMA today and they said they would look into whom has the AMA # 210 and look into forwarding my contact info. Yes it was very well built but also heavy. I'm thinking all up weight must habe been at least 9 lbs. Pretty sure there is alot there in paint. The plan is to sand it down to glass and re-spray using as little paint as possible. I hope to get it down to 8.5 lbs. I may do the structural repairs, put it all back together and fly it until the winter months.
