Does the Boxer 60 design fit into Classic Pattern

I began flying patterns back in the 90s with a Phoenix like airplane and piped Webra .61. My favorite design was the Boxer 60 with a piped YS .61, and I wonder if it falls into the Classic Pattern category.

I remember the power limitations were either a .61 2 stroke or a 1.20 4 stroke engine. In Classic Pattern, is a 1.20 2 stroke engine acceptable? The reason I ask is that I have a Boxer 1.20 partially built. with a Bully (Webra) 1.20 2 stroke for power. This plane was part of the evolution to what is now the 2 meter airplane, although it's only a big sister to the Boxer 60, and not a true 2 meter airplane.

Hell yes, bring it and rip up the sky! I have a Venus II with a .120 two stroke and it does a credible job flying the classic patterns.

If .61 2 stroke is the allowable limit for engine size, a 1.20 2 stroke would not be allowable. A 1.20 4 stroke would be.

PICs of the part built Boxer 120: It's currently for sale for local pick up only, but I doubt anyone will buy it, and I won't re-list it. I'm kind of letting fate decide whether I keep it or not. I'm in the process of downsizing.

I really don't think a post turn around design should be Classic Pattern, but the only one I know it would not be considererd is the SPA.

One thing we have to remember is there are alot of planes that are on the pre / post turn around era, as Turn Around was phased in with the upper classes but guys also used them in the pre turn around. I flew a LA-1 in non-turnaround while it was also being used in FAI or the upper AMA class that was Turnaround. If you have noticed at most all the contest and the CPA post from the CD's we welcome all to fly the old patterns and YES we encourage a era correct plane, but if you have a boxer or a xyz plane i"m sure no CPA CD will turn you away. The point is people will self police and get a more ERA correct plane as they enjoy the CPA fun.. and is that not what CPA is about having fun , with old planes and old patterns....
In all 18 contest for 2012 ( Coast to Coast) I have not heard of one complaint about a plane or a CD having a problem ... so something is being done right. :) More info can be see at www.classicpatternassociation.com Scott CPA#2 |

You can fly any plane in SPA as well. However, you cannot place or win without using an approved plane.

In SPA you can fly any plane as a novice.. If your going for points it must be a approved plane and you have to pay dues...In the other classes, the plane must be on the approved list as well you have to pay dues to fly in the upper classes... Yes any plane can be flown and you will be judged, but not included in the standings of the contest.
In CPA, you do not have to pay any dues unless you want to have voting privileges and have a say in operations of the CPA... As far as the planes, Do to the fact that AMA classes back in the day had a mix of Non-turnaround and turnaround before going to all turnaround, there will be some cross over planes.. We have not had a issue of the planes at the contest.. 18 events in 2012. cpa#2 |
