Actually, one of the things we tried back in 2006 for airplane identification was . . Streamers. The pilots raised such a fuss about the streamers slowing the planes.

We tow a 30' streamer behind .15 engined combat planes and the speed and action is non-stop! 2' on a pylon racer for ID should be no problem. Just a thought.

Maybe Ken can edumacate me better since I just dont know, but my guess is that a streamer would be short lived on these C40 birds due to their speed? At least thats what I am thinking with the streamers we now use for the SSC combat planes (crepe streamers).
I say we continue on just like this year , maybe we can work out ID'ing the planes if it becomes a problem next season. Tim has already been thinking out a couple options in that regard that would work well should we need to go to that .

Our combat SSC planes are plenty fast. No one has lost a streamer due to speed. Unless, of course, they were not tied properly to start with. To ID every pylon racer would require a complete color change at the field. There are not 27 colors to be be had say for last Saturday. 4 different colors per heat race is not out of the question. Black, orange, red and blue would work. That way, it makes no difference what color airplane you have. Watch the streamer.

For our club 40 races we use colored packing lables. Two different colors, green and orange. This give us 4 different designations, High Green, Low Green High orange and Lo Orange. the labels are affixed to the top and bottom of the wings at the tips. Since the race is composed of all left turns, the right wing tip is always high and the left wing tip is always low. Our matrix is set up to assign 4 lanes. What ever lane you are assigned, you get that color designation and you keep it through out the day. Makes it simple for the pylon judges and lap judges as well.

Oi!! Guys, I was not recommending streamers. After fcomer84 wrote, "Why don't we tie streamers to the planes instead of using wheels for extra points??!! ", I just threw that in to show that it was one of the things we tried back in the beginning. They were not crepe paper. It did not hold up.
There is a lot of info on [link=http://www.rcpro.org]www.rcpro.org[/link]. A lot of info. Check out the Club 40 sections. The main thing we learned was not to completely re-invent the wheel.
Actually, this is very off topic for this thread. Perhaps a new one.

Good morning Tim.
I chatted with D3 yesterday and he will respond regarding Alabster soon. He needs to check his calender to see if he has any conflicting dates with their pattern events and will then post here.
I wonder if Jamie has ordered his Richard Simmons CD/DVD yet for Christmas
titled " Sweating It Out While Going Around the Poles"
or either Simmon's other big hit " Get That Thing Leaned Out Before You Get Passed" ?
OUCH!!! DOUBLE-DOUBLE OUCH!!!!
I think he can still find them on Ebay .

I got one of my friends at work one day when I showed up for a visit and told the reseptionist that I was there for a time card audit. The look on her face was priceless! He shows up in the lobby with a scared S%^* - less look on his face. We laughed till we cried.

Alabaster has set their date for March 12th.
So far this is a total of Seven races!
They are also looking at other dates to possibly add in one more race, maybe in July.
My first post has been editied to reflect these added in dates.
2011 is going to be awsome! From what I see right now, we will have around 35-45 guys racing!!!!
