Thanks for the movies John, and thanks to all the WACO workers for putting on the race. A lot of fun and good racing. See you at the races!

Here you are boys, the C Main video. The B and A Main will follow soon. I hope I did it right.
Before any of you come down too hard on me about the quality of filming, remember all I had was a hand held camera and it was not on a tripod and just hand held....I did the best I could . And besides, I aint no cameraman for sure! LOL

RE: 2012 RCPRO Club 40 National Championship Race
What puzzles me is why the camera was viewing the last two planes. I was just a yellow blur lapping the field. Greatness gets no credit. Not to worry, at my age I’m used to it.

Well Bob, I understand your thoughts.
First off, I was using my little Kodak camera and the peep hole that is the viewer is about half the size of a dime diameter to look thru. I had a very dificult time just to track and find any plane while keeping the other eye closed.
Here are some options I will try to use for excuses.....
A: your plane was just so fast that I couldnt keep up with it.
B: you could fire the video camera operator and use another guy.......but wait a minute,,,there was no other video camera rolling either daythatI saw, sothatoption is out.
C: pay me more that the other pilots did, that way you would have gotten more air time.
D: Fly slower next time and come in last place ( thats the one I would suggest you use)
Its all in good fun Bob.Again, congrats on winning the C -main.

This thread takes a long time to load, but I will posat here anyway.
I am curious to hear what the Alabama contingent thought of the ROG start. There were a lot of questions from the guys from other areas before the Alabama race about the air start. Unless I missed them, there were no such discussions about the starting procedure before this race.
Yes, Skully, I did see the reverse start, but decided (not assumed) from the sound of the breeze in the camera mike that it was done because of wind direction. I guess I will have to watch again to see which way the flags on the Ppylons are going. Just what was the wind speed?

RE: 2012 RCPRO Club 40 National Championship Race
Ken, the rise off ground start was certainly different than what I am used to here in Bama. Im not going to say it wasnt interesting, especially when everybody's plane is trying to occupy just about the same airspace oncethey all take off and make the first pole.
I guess that Im just more used to air starting here.
The winds Friday and Saturday were howling at 20-25 mph but they were straight down the runway, mixed in with a few scattered stray showers on Saturday, but not enough to make things bad enough not to fly.
The winds were a factor for the guys who like to hug the poles in a turn , as a few of them got pushed either into a pole or into the ground and ker-splat they went. But man oh man, the planes went like rockets down the back straight with that tail wind!!!
Sunday the wind had pretty much shifted 180 ° but wasnt as bad as the previous days , so that why you see the planes pointed to the left pole for take off for the Main races.
It was a learning experience for me and I have come away with more knowledge that hopefully will make me better. Whats the old saying....: if you dont try change you wont get any different outcome?
John
Oh yeah, ask Skully to stick some velcro to my throttle stick and my left thumb next time..... he'll know what Im talking about

Thanks, John.
I wasn't complaining or objecting to anything, just wondered how the Air Start fellows thought about the ROG Start.
I have done both and have a favorite.

Now that the dust has settled, congratulations to all who participated and especially to Jim and the crew who officiated.
We know who won and placed in the the Features. Could you post the points standings after the heats?

RE: 2012 RCPRO Club 40 National Championship Race
Hey guys, does anybody know how far the poles were set out from the pilots at Waco. I redone our track here in Amarillo per AMA and the 125" out just seems a tad to close and i was just wondering what they were at Waco.

You are correct with the 125 ft dimension but, that is a minimum and they do not designate a maximum. Out of the couple of dozen different clubs that I have raced at only a couple were exactly on the AMA 540-B document dimensions.

Ok good deal. We have only had one race with it at 125" and everybody liked it except for the safety officer, so i guess i am going to set it out another 25-50 feet back just to give a little extra insurance.

Dwayne, you can order direct from APC props, you mayhave to call them to order since I dont think theyhavethese listed on their website...
Business Hours are 6 AM to 2 PM PST
530-661-0399
EDIT,... I did find them on their website, but I called them when I ordered mine a couple weeks ago. They did tell me theyhave a limited supply though. If that doesn pan out for you, let me know as I did order a few extras . I tried these here in Alabama but they didnt work as well as some other props that are currently in use here.

D,
It is not just which prop works best in the altitude. It is also based on you flying style. While I'm not the expert on this, some props turn tighter better, while some like sweeping turns. Buy several varieties and practice, Practice and PRACTICE some more!!!

Dwayne,
Tray is dead on with the prop thing !! I've had a prop work real well for me in one race and would not work at all in the next. I think you have to learn what your plane and motor want due to the conditions of the day. Temp, wind, and humidity all play a part in how your prop and motor work together.. and yes PRACTICE !!! PRACTICE !!! PRACTICE !!!
I know that sounds hard to believe but thats some of what I have experenced............

Dwayne,
I live in Oregon and we race at the 3500 ft level. The prop of choice here is the Master Airscrew 10-6 s2. But I agree, you need to test what works best for you.
Good luck nest season.
