Well my plane is history. I got it all ready with a new wing and new servos in the wing and test flew it yesterday. I took extra time getting things right but I knew I had a problem right after takeoff. It rolled hard to the right and I somewhat got it back, but had no real roll control. It went into the woods. Dashing my hopes for the 2015 Club 40 NATS. I only had one airplane ready, so I'm missing the Club 40 NATS. Not having a plane to fly in competition and driving 12 hours each way, plus time off from work is too much. I really hate that I'm not going to be there meeting new faces. Good luck to the participants.

Club 40 at the Nats was a great success. I want to thank all the flyers from Texas, Alabama, and Oklahoma that came up to fly with us. Special thanks to Bob, Gary, and Ken for CD'ing the race and coordinating all the helpers. Thanks to Ken E. for his help also. First Club 40 Nats champion- Congratulations Sparky- there is no better ambassador for Club-40 out there. He is a great mentor and encourager to all the young racers and Chief cheerleader for "team Prowler". Will be looking forward to a bigger, better event next year.-- Matt

Finally got this done.

There should be some pictures soon. I did not get any. Tomorrow, I will post the names of those who, with no promise of reward, The Starter, Cut Judges, Lap Counters, Fuel Steward, Judgeman Operator, Judgeman recorder, NMPRA Race Program operator, Runners and Alternates, who made this possible .

Check the AMA Website for the Nats News of July 10 and 11.

Now that I am awake in the light of morning, I want to thank our Fuel Sponsor, Ritch's Brew. Randy has supplied fuel not only for the Nats, but also for our local Southern Indiana Circuit.

Ask your LHS to stock it.

Wow!!!! What a race! I too want to thank all of the out of state racers for making the trip to Rainny Muncie and making the Inagural National Club 40 race a resounding sucess!
The weather was cooler than expected with occasional light sprinkels that challenged us but didnt hamper the enthusisam for the event. Because of the weather the HP was down on all the engines but that was across the board. Winds weren't bad and other that the occasional rain drop things went smoothly. The Judgeman Timing and scoreing really worked well and the score box with the lap count and cuts was phenominal to see and use during the race . Thanks to the NMPRA for the loan. Dan Cain Jr (president of the NMPRA) was our starter and the Texas Gang brought the Automatic airplane releaser or "Stooge"
I hope everyone had a great experience. If you have any gripes send them directly to Old Bob our CD. I'm sure there are things that we can improve on but you need to give the feed back to him instead of gripping here or on other forums.
I was a bit surprised that I ended on top but some tell me they thought I was a shoe in. I finally saw the A Main race video after the first turn I was in 4th place so the win didn't come easy. I think some of the planes were faster than mine but the phrase is "Smooth is fast, Fast is smooth" which only comes from airplane preperation and lots of racing.
To that end I want to thank Ken Ericksen for putting on the racing series here in S Indiana. We had three races this year before the Nats and time on course with race conditions are what can make anybody faster.
My Monroe County R/C club team mates (Tim3, Clint, Matt) can't be thanked enough for their support and practice time we have had over the last few years as well as our club lets us leave the pylons out almost year round so we get to practice pretty much any time.
I dont mean to leave anyone out of the list it was a team effort to put this event on and for me to enjoy the sucess that came my way.
I am pretty sure we will get a chance to do this again next year so now isnt too soon to start making plans for Muncie 2016. Bigger and better. Come on over and see if you can take the Tittle home from Indiana but I think we have soem pretty speedy guys here in Indiana that you will have to out fly to do it!

Missing after the event was an AMA loaned power box used to convert the RV hook up power plug to a conventional 3 prong outlet for running our electronics. If anyone has it or knows were it might have wandered off to let me know.

Life is good when you have good friends. I appreciate all the help I received from Gary Fisher and Ken Hopson. Without them I could not have been there. I’m glad everyone had a good time and appreciative of the help from Dan Kane, Ken Erickson, Tom Melsheimer, Lisa (computer lady), Tim Porter (computer guy) and all the other workers. A special thankyou from all the worker and I goes to Matt Fornefeld for donating the $25 Speedy gift cards. I have CD’ed a bunch of pylon races over the past 45 years but this was by far the best and the most fun.
Here are the final results for the first 5 rounds:
  1. T Sparks 1:24.89 fast time
  2. S Fabianke 1:27.24
  3. J Peace 1:26.73
  4. G Fisher 1:26.87
  5. G Doe 1:28.31
  6. M Talley 1:33.27
  7. T Witte 1:25.96
  8. M Fornefeld 1:28.18
  9. K Hopson 1:33.19
  10. T Koehler 1:32.63
  11. K Erickson 1:41.78
  12. B Osman 1:35.81
  13. C Seyer 1:36.74
  14. R Petrinec 1:31.08
  15. B Merrell no time
  16. T Melsheimer no time
Here are the results of the A, B, and C Mains
C Main
Forth Matt Fornefeld,
Third T Koehler,
Second K Hopson,
And T Witte won and moved up to race in the B Main.
B Main
Forth T Witte,
Third G Doe,
Second G Fisher,
And M Talley was first and he moved up to the A Main.
A Main

Default A big thank you to the helpers and contributors

I had hoped to make this post on Sunday, but somehow the plastic box, which contained the list of names of all the helpers and from which Bob had drawn the folded papers for the raffle, had been emptied before being set near my car to be packed. There were a couple of the helpers whose names I did not know. By asking the individuals who had brought those helpers to us, the names have been retrieved.

Thanks to:

Dan Kane, who invited Club 40 to be an event at the Nats and for acting as the "Starter", the man in charge, the direct representative of the CD. It was he who initiated the chain of events, which made the use of the Judgeman System possible

Tom Melsheimer, who worked all Thursday afternoon and into the evening to affirm that the Judgeman System could be used for Club 40 racing. He was registered to fly in the event, but instead spent Friday as the "Steward" of the System, doing the "housekeeping" tasks which made it possible for the System to work for us.

Robert, 0ldbob, Petrinec, for being the CD and the Leader and Sparkplug of the Texas Circuit, bringing so many of them to the race.

Lisa Koehler and Tim Porter for being the "Recorders" of the event, making it possible for me to have posted the results as quickly as was done.

In alphabetical order, the Cut Judges, Lap Counter, Fuel Steward, Runners, List Maker and general helpers:

George Farris
Ned Gochenour
Jake Kane
Fred Rasener
Barry Reade
Steve Shoop
Brayton Thompson
Gary Waters
Chad Williams
Norm Williams

Randy Ritch for the fuel burned on the 10th of July.

Don Stegal, who for arranged the Tower Hobbies gift certificates, which were raffled to the helpers mentioned above.

Matt Fornefeld for the Gas Cards which were also raffled to the helpers.

Hope I got that right!!!

Ken

Well, I didn't get that right, but have made the correction.

The Gas cards were donated by Matt Fornefeld.

I don't know if they were bought and paid for, or donated, but all the winners need to remember to thank Chuck at SanaLoma Laser for the trophies.

It was a great run race, The Stooge that the Texas guys brought was really a great way to have the ROG start. I wish I had brought a C40 plane to fly. Maybe next year.

The problem for me was that I was entering in 426 and 422 and was just getting my timing together in 422. I have four Club 40 planes and just didn't want to mix the two pole and three pole courses. I see that it didn't hurt Trey Witte as he ended up 2nd overall in 422.
