3-pole racing returns to Texas
By popular demand, 3-pole racing returns to Texas on August 20th at FW Thunderbird field. We will race Q-25/Club 40 (at the same time) and EF-1 on the AMA short course. See attached flier. In the event that we do not have enough judging manpower, we will default to a standard 2-pole race. Also, please note the rule deviation on the flier. A cut light will trump a turn light at pylon #1.

weather was sketchy. 70% chance of rain and we got every bit if it!
I think we flew the 1st 3 rounds in a light drizzle. Then it stopped and the rest of the day was cloudy but nice.
We only had 7 pilots in Q25 and we didn't fly EF1 at all.
I had a little anxiety about launching the Q25's from the plywood sheets but it works with a healthy shove.
All in all we had a good time. I don't think we lost any airplanes. That's always a good thing.
We have a 424/426 race scheduled there in November.

Like Jim said, things went fairly good for a first effort. A lot of people stayed away because of the forecast. It rained lightly until about 10:30 or so, but after that the rain stopped and we got in 5 rounds of Q-25. There were not enough entries to run an EF-1 race. The plywood launch ramps worked fairly well, but I am going to increase the height of them. A 426 will jump into the air but these under-powered Q-25's need a pretty hefty shove. The old District 8 light boxes which I rebuilt worked perfectly but the electronic lap counter and cut system that we have failed, possibly due to the moisture.

The conversion Gary did with the old two pole system we have been using and the way he set it up should (will work) very well I believe. Gary and Sarge had tested it out before hand and I understand everything check out. The transport to the field and all the moisture I believe caused the grim lings to come out. Thanks for all the hard work Gary.
