Simple club flying competitions
Our small rc plane club has about 20 members. Of that lot maybe 15 are regular fliers and we generally fly simple sports type models. We fly 2 mornings a week but once a month have an 'official' club day during which we fly a simple competition, often followed by a BBQ. Competition results are logged and the club champion is the one who scores most points for the year. It is all rather low-key with emphasis on fun.
A typical competition may involve a timed climb/glide event - say 30 seconds engine run , the winner is the one who can stretch the glide the longest with bonus points available for the dead-stick landing in the nominated circle.
Another might be to take-off, fly a circuit with a loop and/or roll in the downwind leg followed by a touch n` go. The winner is the one with most completed circuits in a specified time - say 3 minutes.
Another might be two rounds of a simple bombing competition.
Part of the fun is that the competitors don`t know the competition type or content until the pilot`s briefing and so can`t plan to bring a specialised model.
I have been press-ganged into the CD job for next year and so get to set the programme. It would amuse me to introduce a few different competitons this time.
I`d be interested to read some new ideas here. Is there a publication or list in existence which may help with this?
Merry Xmas to All,
Alan W

I've never done it but have seen a video of "Carrier Landing" with RC planes. Basically a 4'x8' sheet of thin plastic is dragged down the runway by a RC truck and you try to land on it (touch and go is ok). Other version is just try to touch down in a 4x8 box drawn on the runway.

Thought of a couple more events.
Speed Taxiing: Set up a few cones in a straight line and zigzag between them, at the last cone make a 180 and come back. Fastest time wins. Make it more interesting by putting a small ramp in the middle that you have to go over.
Trainer Races: Take wing off and have a race around a basic circle track. One at a time or full contact!

Is this a fiendish version of the "conveyor belt" runway?
