Default How do you store your planes ?

Hi,

How do you guys store your planes ?

I am moving from a house into an apartment without garage and where space is scarce , so I must find a way to hang my planes. I cannot hang them from the ceiling because it is forbidden to drill into it (underfloor heating). I can only drill into walls.

Thanks for your suggestions andpictures are welcomed.

-Paul

My Airforce lives in the trailer all year round. They get worked on in the shed, but other then that, their home is on wheels.

Hi STUKA BARRY,

The planes are not affected by damp during the winter ?

The planes dont know what the weather is, damp weather, have'nt you ever flown off the water? Talk about damp, but to answer your question, fiberglass and paint does'nt get bothered by weather. Some modelers get concerned about the batteries, but it does'nt seem to bother them either, I guess they hibornate in the winter. When spring comes I cycle every ignition and receiver batery and they come back to life every time. I only trust my batteries for 4 seasons, after that whether they hold a charge or not, I replace them. Yes, it seems expensive, but a $30.00 battery is cheaper than a $2000-$4000 warbird. If your concerned about leaving planes in the trailer all year round, believe me, it does'nt hurt them at all.

The whole system is the same. Just shelving components, with everything movable/adjustable. So...what's an airplane "rack" on one end of the shop, becomes...

On the other end.

@gboulton

Thanks,you are myinspiration. I will hang my planes the way you do. I saw the same brackets in a local home improvement superstore.

@STUKA BARRY

I am concerned about the electronics and the engine, but you must be right, I suppose I'm a neat freak.

Glad you like the idea. I certainly didn't invent it of course, but hope it works well for you.

Local home improvement super-store (Lowe's, in my case) is exactly where I found my brackets and rails, and I'm sure you'll find similar at yours.

As I always do when it comes to storing and/or hauling our planes around, I recommend significant planning to achieve maximum "adaptability". The more you're able to move, rearrange, and reposition things, the more adaptable your storage space will be, so it can grow with you and your "fleet".

Other than the batteries as I explained before, the electronics and curtainly the engines dont care.
