Dead sticks & Retracts
I had a chance to practice what I preach this morning. I have this hot little Wm P-51. Have not flown it since last fall. Since then i got a new transmitter so in a way it was another "maiden" for trimming purposes.
I had it to lean, i knew it but blew it off and took off. I was up about 2 minutes which was enough to trim it out and it died. of course this always happens in the worst area. My gear was still down.
I made the attempt at returning to the runway. it was not going to happen. I then turned the plane away from us and committed to the desert. I brought up the gear and stalled it right over the bushes. All It got was dirty and cowl scratches. Gear was fine and i came home a happy man.
