Well, they must be somewhere else, because there isn't one on RCU. (By popular concensus of the membership)

Huffy???? Just answering the question as asked, and letting you know it was discussed at length in several threads here.

Sorry if providing an answer is "Huffy".

mIRC is a chat program..

Go to www.mirc.com/get.html

d/l the one for your type of computor <its fast and easy>

do the simple set-up, and off you go as in post #8 ..

-----------------

if you wish to do web based <java> chat..
Go to:
http://www.********.net/forums/chat.php

a 'applet' box will appear to auto d/l the java script if you do not
already have it..

java is a primative chat client, but it works...

Default chat rooms????

We have discussed having a chat room here at RCU several times. Every time we discuss it, we decide against it. Without going into detail, one of the biggest reasons against it is that it would be too difficult to moderate.

If you'd like to know more, do a search for Chat, and you'll find several threads on the topic.

Chat rooms aren't hard to moderate. If you don't want foul language in your chat room (which really is the only thing that a room would need to be moderated for), you make that known, either by posting it in the topic on your room or by telling the room users. When someone abuses the policy, you warn them. They abuse it again, you kick them. They abuse it again, you kick and ban them. Simple. Chat rooms are fun. Come join us DemonMcKee.

So how do you protect the 12 yr old from seeing what some snert is posting when there are no mods in the room?

I've spent lots of time in chat rooms.

I've seen what can be gotten away with.

The general consensus is: RCU won't be doing chat for now.

Default chat

Well according ot the last poll, chat was desired by the majority of those responding and Marc said it was being built into the new RCU but actually activating it was questionable.
Below is the link to the poll

yes but why put in a pole if (no matter what) we arnt going to get a chat room?and nobody wants to link to another site just to chat with members of this site. doesnt that deplete the purpose of starting a site of there own. what is everyone affraid of anyways??? here is an idea start a chat room ,just one and ill be the moderator of it. if it flops, it wont, then ill take the blame and it will be the end of it from me. i wont even continue on this forum if it fails and i really like this site.
face it if you link others chat rooms to your site then you are turning people away! anybody that has their own business knows what im talking about.

latest pole reading is 65 to 55 in a pole that was started last year i know there are more members then that out there.

the ones that believe "you cant teach an old dogs new tricks" is wrong very very wrong, thats what keeps an old dog young.

hey MinnFlyer

in the members regestration you should have to post your age, if someone lies about their age its not your fualt what they hear in a room that is set up for pg13 or nc17 restictions are the key to success

You are obviously under the delusion that the parents of a 12 yr old who is in an adult chat room will calmly say, "Oh, gee, it's not RCU's fault. Our little Johnny is totally to blame."

Yea, that'll happen.

Typical chat room exchange:

a: - Hey, anyone here?

b: -Yeah,

a: -what's happening?

b: -not much

a: -ok, see ya

b: -ok

Now that's what I think we really need on RCU!

if Little Johnny lies about his real age in the registration form then he is totally to blame. leaveing you clear of any blame put on by the parents.

it sounds to me nomatter what anyone says you are never going to put a chat room here. even though the majority of the members voted on that pole say it wold be a good idea and improvement.
maybe you guys are the old dog that wont try and learn new tricks.
