RE: Motor getting way too hot - why??
The motor may have a flaw in the windings or might have bad bearings or rubbing inside. If it turns a little tight it's probably a bearing issue. If you have a watt meter see how much current the motor is drawing. If it is over spec then you need a smaller prop or a bigger motor. If it is within spec but still getting hot then you have a defective motor.
Since your flying FPV a better motor may be the way to go but it depends on how much you want to spend. The Cadillac Is: http://www.lowpricerc.com/product_in...roducts_id=893 or you cound go cheaper with one of these: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLWX9&P=0 Both of these will work well.
Some folks are using these in the Easy Star and reporting good results: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=5203
You can buy less expensive motors but you may wind up with the same problem and have to buy three or four to get one that works.

So cousindeanne how goes it with the motor? Were you able to do any testing?
My guess is that you are using this motor which would explain a lot.

These motors are over rated, under powered, and are notorious for having bad bearings. They claim 32 amps max but it is more like 25 and the 2200 KV rating is dubious as the KV tends to be lower and they don't have a lot of torque. Read the review at the bottom of the page, it's the most accurate and it is possible that others were edited out. At any rate, this is a bottom of the heap motor and your FPV plane deserves better.
