On my first trip to a club, I was a newbie and I had my newly built Pica Cessna 182. It was, heavy and way tail heavy, but unfortunately this was taught to me after some "expert" (read as bozo) attemted to fly my plane without first checking the CG. He crashed 10 ft. after take-off; luckily only cosmetic damage. Then, someone a bit more thorough offered to help before I left the hobby.
Well, there wasn't any stick-on lead around, and my plane was, again, way tail heavy. Soooo, we grabbed an average sized Cresent wrench and rubber-banded it to the top of the cowl. I was a bit uncertain, but I had nothing to lose at that point. The helpful gentleman gently lifted the plane off the runway, and it flew perfectly.

A little 5 min epoxy and some rocks from the parking lot work great for getting your CG right. They're also cheap and come in various weights & sizes!

A leaky fuel line was causing some problems.
Cut 1/8" of the fuel line off; using forcepts (or tweezers etc) stretch this tubing and put it over the leaky fuel line.
Now reconnect the fuel line and the leak is gone.

Same thing as the first post. The back nut of my muffler came off. I just used a locking nylon nut that was too big, and threaded it on the nylon part. When the engine started running and heated the nut up, I had a custom fitted screw. It has been on their ever since.

banded the firewall back on my Cougar after prophanging went wrong. also turned my Panther funfly into a flying wing after i knocked off the tail, took some cotton and glue to fix the enigne mount, a box wrench to get the CofG right. it was also dark by the time i was ready to fly..

Guy I fly with flies a DTS as we call it. A duct tape special. It has hit the following, yet thanks to duct tape (applied at the field) it still flies: The ground, at least 10 times. This one pesky palm tree in the middle of our field (I swear this guy is attracted to it like a moth to a flame) has been hit 7 times. And he has flubbed countless takeoffs (he doesn't like full power take offs ) and landings (no fine motor skills). :stupid:
All he needs for his excursions outside of the normal flight pattern is plenty of rubber bands and duct tape!

A buddy and I taught ourselves how to fly. We knew what the control surfaces were supposed to accomplish (sort of). We measured our flights in seconds. We would hit what ever happened to be in the way. We would patch up the planes with anything that would serve the purpose. I finally got an old high wing plane (silk covered) out of my dad's attic. Thing was built around 1957. I put my radio gear and engine in the thing, changed it to trike gear. I flew it sucessfully on the 1st attempt. They HAD to have easy to fly planes in those days.

Packing tape is the fix-all material for RC airplanes. Duct tape is too heavy
Ok, lets see, goofy repairs I've done or partcipated in:
- fixing a broken wing spar with packing tape, some metal pushrods, and some bamboo skewers.
- fixing a broken TX antenna with packing tape and metal pushrods to make a splint
- fixing mashed up ailerons by cutting them short and swapping them left-for-right to get solid wood to re-install the control horns in. Lots of tape and CA in that one too. (I have a picture of this one, if you care)
- bits of metal pushrod, epoxy, and some bamboo to re-attach a vertical and horizontal stab to the fuse after it had been knocked off in a mid-air.
- taping over countless prop cuts in wings, tail surfaces, ailerons, you name it.
- taking 3 servos apart to get enough good parts to make 1 working servo. (case from one, gears from another, electronics from a 3rd).
- using packing tape and a bit of metal pushrod to hold the wing hold down dowl in the fuse after it had been pulled out.
- yet more packing tape used to hold parts of a cowl roughly back where they started after yet another mid-air.

Many years ago we took a very tail heavy 12 foot Telemaster to the field. In an attempt to balance it, we placed two cresent wrenches and a Sullivan 12 volt starter in the front. Balanced it and it flew fine. The guy kept flying it that way for a year or more. He had one of the only 'flying" tool boxes I ever saw.

I like the cresent wrench idea
I had a spad stik and didn't have any weights to balance (was tail heavy).
Had a pocket knife in my box and it balanced it out perfectly! Couple of zipties and I was flying.

Had a tail heavy plane I was trying to fly. Couldn't get it to balance. Ended up with a buck knife taped on the nose with packing tape and left the glow igniter on. Got a half circuit before it spun in. Probably should have not built the servos in the tail. Expecially considering it was a 15 size ultimate[sm=eek.gif].
