Default Paint Ball

As an added event at our recent fun fly turned into quite a success and contributed to netting a reasonable profit for the club and a lot of smiles both from members and even a troop of girl scouts.

It will become a fixture of our future fun flys.

My apologies Flyinwalenda I,ve been timed out three time and perhaps problems with my server but here goes agine.

The paint balls were sold for one dollar for a cup of ten and each shooter stood in line for the gun master to load their paintballs and instruct as necessary the gun never left his side all day and he made sure that it was pointed up range at all times.

Hits were easy to note and for each hit a shooter made he received one ticket in the main raffle which included a new Senior Kadet.

The real asset was the boost in raffle tickets that would not have been sold otherwise in it would only have been just the more ordinary fun fly events that also were run.

Also This brought in more general public beyond just RC folks. That included to my surprise several troops of girl scouts.

I flew my sacrificial Senior which I use for a primary training ship and it was also in need of a recover. I intended to recover anyway to install a new nite flying light system.

The call of "dead stick" after landing on the last flight was just humor' The nosewheel was actuallty damaged during that last flight and the nosewheel fell off in flight.

Damage to covering was extensive and the airplane is completely stripped now with minor repairs going on before the recover.

It was a total of five flights with the .35AX powered airplane being relaunched after each dry tank by helpers. The best spot to fly from was directly behind the shooter and gunmaster. I did nothing but continuous circles with slowing as slow as possible in the wind and around ten feet above the ground.

It was exhausting but the fun fly was considered a big success owing much to the paintballs portion and we were able to make a reasonable profit for the club.

Thanks John. Lot's of good ideas there !
I was thinking of using a white foam multiplex trainer for the target plane or perhaps towing a glider target for them to shoot at. Or I have some stick built planked planes that could withstand a BB gun !
Did you tune down the guns velocity ?
I have talked to some folks who have tried this before just for fun and it's hard to make hits. Harder than you would think !

Good job John. Our club has done something similar at our fun fly and it is nothing short of a blast. Glad it worked out well and perhaps even generated some interest in the hobby amoung those that might otherwise not think about it.

Ah yes the 'Big Sandy' river actually a short drive from here, Hmm.

For the paint ball shoot as an adjunct to a Fun fly it really is vital for someone to be able to make a hit. That requires a super slow pass and a sizable target, thats why I choose my Kaydet. There were two others that also flew, one flew an old Astro Hog and the other a smallish fun fly type of airplane.

I don,t beleve either ever received a hit. That would have been a disaster for the fun fly. Both made rather high speed passes and thats when I got the kaydet ready. There was a steady wind all day of around 12 knots and that allowed me to slow to almost a crawl each 360 circuit. This I think was a key point.

There My first shooter was a little girl who could not even hold the gun an daddy helped her. She was actually the first one to make a hit, of course I let out with a pained "ya got me, ya got me". At this the girls scouts on the rail just roared and paintball cups started selling like wildfire.

I will get a link up of the fun fly page in our club website here a few and some of the stills are interesting:
