I'm not sure how the wind conditions have been where you are but here in NEPA it's been windy since November! It's been the windiest winter and spring in a long, long time. Haven't had many weekends under 10-12 and only a handful of calm days. Usually the wind calms down towards the end of the day but not so much here....so far. This past week was brutal and it's already well into May.
Luckily the weather and wind did cooperate for our 2012 events ....so far. I don't mind and have flown in windy conditions but much prefer calmer winds or no wind days. This weekend was forecast to be 5-10 but at 8am the treetops were already moving!

Same thing here in north central Arkansas. We try to fly on Sunday and Wednesday, weather permitting. Last Wednesday the winds were predicted at 5 -10. When we got to the field, they were about 20 gusting t0 35. We sat around shooting the bull for a couple hours, one guy tuned a newly assembled gasser, then we went home. We didn't even unpack the trucks. A good time was had by all.

I feel your pain. It's always windy to an extent here. ( I can see a wind generator farm from each of the three fields a fly at) but this year and last for that matter have been over the top. I still fly, but it gets lonely.

My brother and I are not great pilots, so steady wind above 15 (or gusty winds) will ground us. Between wind and wet, we have not seen a lot of good flying days.

The land where we fly is heavy clay, very flat, and in a low area. Even though we have not gotten a huge amount of rain it has been just enough (on the wrong days) to keep it muddy for the weekends. On days that it was not muddy the winds have been blowing 20 plus and sometimes gusting to 30 plus.

If this year is like 2011, the day the wind stops the thermometer will hit 100.

Here in the Mojave Desert wind is a fact of life. Days without steady, fairly strong winds are rare while days with strong, gusty winds are all too common. And then there are those days when the wind really decides to blow and I end up having to repair blown down fence panels.

Well, I WAS going to say it's been hot & getting hotter where I live....but damn, I just can't compare to your local!

(Btw, I'm in Merced, CA. We've been getting up into the mid- to high-90's. And it's not even summer yet.)

Mid 90s here as well. Going to get a lot hotter before it gets cooler, that's for sure!

It's the same across the pond here in Japan. The only time the wind isn't blowing is when it's raining. Don't even get calm mornings anymore.

That flash at the sound of lies

Wind was never an issue where I just came from, Dubai. Yes, the wind would blow on occasion, but it was the accompanying dust that ruined the day. In your eyes, lungs, what a pain! Fortunately it didn't happen often.

It is a hobby. If it's not fun, I don't bother.

Dust !..... one club I fly at is in the river flood zone and the ground is full of the silt. Can't see it, it's not like a dust storm, but after a day of flying your planes , your clothes/shoes are covered in it. Couldn't imagine having to deal with actual dust storms!
The wind is starting to calm down a bit day by day but it is still blowing and gusty more so than other years.

Hey............I tell my fellow fliers at our club when they complain about the wind to LOOK UP TOWARDS THE SKY & if they don't see wind, it's not too windy to fly!

Wind.......Shorter take offs

Wind......Shorter approaches & landings

Wind.........Slower touch downs

Wind........keeps the bugs out of your eyes when flying

Ya'all need to turn a negative into a positive!

OK...............I'll quit..............

Yeah, we tell the new members and the one's who don't like wind ....if you want to fly a lot you need to learn how to fly in the wind !
But enough is enough already. I like to take smaller , lighter planes up for some relaxing flights. HA !!! Took one up the other evening and the gusts almost turned me over making a left turn ! Looking out right now at the calm and sunny day they forecast only to see torrential rain, hail and 25+mph winds ! Whoopie ! Got an hour of flying time in this morning and then it hit about Noon.....hasn't stopped since.

I remember being stationed a Forbes AFB in Topeka in 67-68, seeing guys flying single channel rudder only, or rudder/throttle planes in winds to 30 mph. Talking with one of the cluvb members, he told me that down there, if you were afraid of a little wind, you needed to find a new hobby. Fly in wind, or don't fly.

O' i feel much better now. I thought i was the only one flying in 10-20mph winds.Actually its only been in the last several years here in NE Texas that the winds have been a problem in the spring and summer. Its had a negitive effect on our club attendance.Alot of saturday's its just myself & maybe 1-5 other flyers.
Anyone can fly in any wind. Its the landings, that make or break your plane.

This is a crazy summer. Now we have Tornado warnings, hail, cloud-ground lightning, and 60-70mph gusting winds this afternoon across most central & northern counties in NEPA. Just got a dose of it a few minutes ago.
The winds at the field have still been very strange. Cross winds, changing direction several times a day. Well there's always the calm right after a storm I guess. I just hope there is not any or mot much damage anywhere.
