Default Screw vs Bolt

Guys, try Googling or searching hobby websites for a screw of some sort and watch all the bolts come up.

Listen up vendors...a screw is a screw and a bolt is a bolt.

Pah leeeze stop using the two interchangeably. Thank you.

There. I feel better now.

Anybody else have any examples of terminology used interchangeably that is irritating...

Just having fun is all...

Lets see - do you call a machine screw a bolt? Is a screw to you a wood screw?

you really want a good laugh, go to Tower Hobbies site and type in shims and hit search...................bolts come up along with other stuff that have nothing to do with shims.

Then there is the ultimate: Engine vs. Motor.

Y'all talk among yourselves about that one.

Gas and glow fuel. Sorry, folks, but those two ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE!! Every time I hear or see someone refer to "nitro gas" I want to scream. Not only is it incorrect, it is also potentially dangerous.

We drive on the parkway , park on the driveway , and , If drunk driving is illegal in every state of the US , then

Why do Bars have parking lots ????

Engine VS motor , indeed !!!

I think bolts are long thingies that have "screw" threads and a raised head, usually hex shape, to put a spanner, or wrench, or multi grip or whatever u can get your hands on, to turn.

Screws have the other type of heads, with slots, or phillips slots or that impossibly horrible airbus type offset slots for you to put your screw driver, or metal ruler tip or pen knife tip or whatever you can find to fit, to turn them

that pretty much sums it up

for me a bolt vs screw is machine thread vs other

but according to Oxford dictionaries its

bolt1

Pronunciation: /bəʊlt/

noun

  • 1a large metal pin, in particular:
  • a bar that slides into a socket to fasten a door or window.
  • a long pin with a head that screws into a nut, used to fasten things together.
  • the sliding piece of the breech mechanism of a rifle.
  • Climbing[/i] a long pin that is driven into a rock face so that a rope can be attached to it.
so I guess anything that could have a nut tightened on it is technically a "bolt"
[/list]

In engineering terms, Not to be confused with wood screws, completely different.
A screw, is where the thread on a bolt goes from tip to head.
A bolt the thread does not go from tip to head.
A pic of engineering bolts and screws

If you go on the rcu homepage the advert shows 6AL 4V ti screws with hex heads.

Engine vs. motor...

Ship vs. boat...

Choose/chose, there/their/they're...

I do like the glass/mug/stein arena. Time for a nightcap!

Every industry has it's own language. What may be correct in one could be incorrect in another. Screw and bolt both have several meanings depending on context.
