1964 Contender 60 (w/OS 70 II Surpass). Though mine is a "Golden Anniversary" kit. Iwas just gifted an original with a set of vintage white-cased servos(including recracts)that are just this side of vacuum tubes and an ENYA with an open cylinder muffler..

Not really a "pattern ship" . . . but in 1964 it was. ;-)

I was flying a Kaos 60 in early 70's and then starting the Skyglass A-6 Intruder. I think it was Skyglass, might have been Fliteglass. It was a kit that only contained a fibreglass fuselage and the foam cores. Anyone remember using 1/64 plywood for wing skins? And K & B Super Poxy. I flew the UFO for a few years and the last pattern ship was the Magic.

I always had 3 of the same pattern plane set up identical to each other. The old one was for practise and the second oldest for contest and the 3rd was backup. Going to a pattern contest where there were 60 and 70 contestants was a real thrill. The visiting, the stories, the different planes and commaraderie was so much fun. You would drive home Sunday evening, dead tired, but filled with ideas, new friends, and new memories.

Those were the days.

Had a Saphir with a YS .61 long-stroke on it. You hear "flew like it was on rails" all the time, but this thing sure did. Flawless 8-point hesitation rolls before I was really good enough to do 'em myself.
