Default Subsitute for Shock Oil?

So I have two cheap vandal buggies I use for bashing. Of course the shocks have leak or pop off from time to time. Is there a cheap household alternative I can use for shock oil? Motor oil? Vegetable Oil? Something with a thinner viscocity that you'd recommend?

Default

30-weight, clean mineral oil will do the job to start. 40- or 50-weight if you need more damping, lower weight if you need less.
