Default Flying Legends, Duxford 2012

Gentlemen,

Last weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Flying Legends airshow at Duxford, England. Not being much of a photographer, I still thought I’d share some pictures with you. Aircraft on display (and, of course, flown) were, to name a few, P-47G Thunderbolt “Snafu”, Sikorsky S-38 (apparently the only airworthy S-38 in the world), P-38 Lightning, F4U Corsair, Hispano Buchon (x 2), Spitfire (x 10, including three Mark 1), Hawker Sea Fury, Hawk 75, Hawk P40B, Hawk P40F, Fieseler Storch, Lysander, Nieuport 17, Fokker DR1, Sopwith Triplane, B-17 “Sally B” (used in the film “Memphis Belle”, hence the name “Memphis Belle” on the right side of its nose), PBY Catalina “Miss Pick Up”, Avro Lancaster (flyby only).

One of the highlights for me was when I got to meet three Lancaster veterans, namely Ivor “Blondie” Foster, John Banfield and Arthur Smith, who kindly signed two books for me. As a tribute to these brave men I want to show you the Lancaster as it appeared at Duxford on June 30.

Thank you, Kmot. I only wish I'd had a bigger and better camera, and a tripod for the videocamera, but I didn't feel like lugging too much equipment all the way to England. []
