Default think you got alotta posts?

I can remember back in the day of when RCO was big... Some guys had around a couple thousand posts. Post numbers don't seem to matter too much any more but for other forums it sure seems to be. My friend plays this game called Asheron's Call. They have their own forum that is supported by the people who play the game. Now the forum base has been up for 2 years but guess how many posts the number one guy has? Get this... 38,000! Yes thats Thirty Eight Thousand, no typo! I think I will just stick with a few hundred -Steve

As long as you don't go into the "test forum" here at RCU and keep posting the words test, then I think everything is cool Hopefully no one will do this after I said that :\

38,000!!! Somebody does not have much of a life outside the computer screen.........

I don't play the number of posts game.....it has been shown time and again that the number of posts does not correlate to RC experience. The number of posts plus a dollar will get you a donut and a coffee....

I think the number of posts shows how willing you are to interact with other people and try to be helpful.

Or how many questions you ask. That could be a good indicator of which people are utilizing the forum as a resource rather than just socializing. Like most people here, I use it for both.

What about when someone posts a snide remark. Should that count too? Just looking at the post count is not a very useful metric IMO.

The only real way would be to check that person out and see what they posted, then youll know.

eeekkkkkk! AHHHH, well lets just hope that no one will actually take that seriously. 38,000 posts is a ton, but don't they have control over how many posts they have? (I'm not saying that they deliberatly gave themselves more posts, but.... ya mean)

best way to see is as JohnVH says...click the "search" icon and read through a few of the posts a user made...this will give you an idea of how informed they may be...obviously the more posts one has the larger the sample size from which you are able to draw a conclusion so both together are important.

Shortman - there are hacks like that but this board has floodchecks to prevent such a ridiculous thing...

also the test forums are purged ever month and those posts are deducted from your overall post count when purged...so if you see your posts go down you know I have been pruning posts...

I also use it for both. I have learned alot from reading the posts on this site. It is very useful when there are not any modelers around to talk to.

I have seen some of the snide remark guys on here....sheesh...they need to grow up.

I agree with John..I have done that before

I agree Wayne...

Marc, you won't be pruning the information(3D, kit building, beginners, etc.) forums will you? Lots of good stuff in them..

Up here, John.....in fact with your dollar, you could get two donuts.....

Back to the topic at hand, with the proliferation of RC boards, we often run across people we recognize from other places, as long as they keep the same name (unlike me..... ) Hopefully, their good reputation precedes them..... -post counts not withstanding..
