Hi All,

As of recently my family has decided to relocate from NY to San Diego. Partially because we don't trust the movers and because we thought it'd be a good opportunity, we're loading the trailer with a few planes in hope to take a tour of the great flyings field of America. We have no specific route we're trying to stick to, and as long as we make it to San Diego by August 10th (leaving Aug 2nd) we'll be within our time frame. We're bringing a 3.3m carf yak, a 2.6m carf yak, a QQ Python and a carf Ultra Lightning.

The question is where should we stop? I figure it would be hard to show up at a new field without being somebody's guest. It would be best to get contact information for the club president so we're not intruding.

Two weeks to figure out our route so hopefully you guys will have some good suggestions for us.

It would be best if people new the way you were going, then you could get response form people along the way. I would be hard to plan a trip and not know what way you were going.

At this point we don't really have any specific route planned out. Probably going to dip south early so we can get northern Texas and stop is Tucson.

I'm up for any suggestions.

Well what you're saying you want to do pretty much drives you to taking I-40 all the way across the country. Which opens some interesting posibilities.
The National Museum of the USAF in Dayton OH
AMA HQ just a couple of hours west of that in Muncie
The Indianapolice Motor Speedway tour.
The gateway arch in StLouis.
Buder Park flying field in west St Louis county is right on I-40
Six Flags over Missour just west of that
Meramec Caverns about an hour west of that (two miles off the highway and worth every minute!)
You'll pass by two rc fields in Tulsa OK
You can easily get to 5 of the 9 RC fields in the OKC metro area
And there are two or three fields close to I-40 before you leave Oklahoma.
Don't know what's past the state line, haven't been out to that end of the world yet.

Go to the AMA site and pull up the "find a club" search function

Type in the zip codes of all the major cities along I-40 and hunt with in the 100 mile radius, that will just about find any of the clubs between two city pairs along the route.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Tulsa is definitely a possibility on my list. Not sure how many stops we'll make. Maybe try to see one field each day which would make the trip last around 6 days or so.

If you're passing by Muncie, it's probably worth stopping there for a flight and a museum tour.  And as the guy above said, if you have to pass through Indy, the Indy Motor Speedway has a fantastic museum if you and/or your family memebers like racing.

If you take I-65 so. to Nashville to get on I 40. Stop by at Bowling Green,Ky. exit 28. we have 800ft of BT to fly over. dennis

You mention I-40 which should be corrected to I-44. Also Buder park is open to the general public but you must have a permit from the city to fly there. And i'll give a +1 for Muncie AMA HQ... Great facility and a very nice RC museum.

RCKen is in Lawton OK. Southwest of OKC on I-44.

Further South, off of I-30 is our club www.greenvillerc.com
We have not had big turnouts this year so you could be alone at the field. The gate is chained but not locked. Need AMA card to fly.

Fly1 and his Dad made it to the TORKS in Oklahoma City yesterday around noon. The weather gods even smiled on them and turned on the airconditioning! It stayed in the 90's instead of the 110's we were seeing last week.

I think they had a great time flying at a club that is in the inner portions of OKC.

Great to meet you guys, safe and fun trip to the west coast!
