Default Saito 300 twin or CRRC 55 twin?

Given a choice, which one would you guys rather have, and why. I have the Saito on a GP Giant Big Stick, and am considering swapping it for the CRRC gasser. What do you guys think?

I left nitro a couple year's ago. Mostly due to the cleanliness, cost, and ease of tuning of gas.
So I would say do with the 55. There's a couple of the CRRC's at my field and they run great.

I'm in the gas camp too. I've swapped out all of my 90 and higher glow (especially 2-cycle glow) for gas or electric. I've been running older Quadra,Zenoah ,etc.. on my large planes and they run great. Tune it and forget it for the most part. I have a few newer engines along with a CRRC 40 on my Ultra Stick and it runs great with an 18-8/14 prop. They may not sound as "sweet" as a Saito but the cost savings in fuel and maintenance is enough to get over it.

You talked me in to it. I just pulled the trigger on the 55cc twin. Now I need to sell the Saito 300 twin. []

How does the CRRC 55 compare to a single cylinder 50cc engine, power wize? I love the price of the CRRC, but I must admit, the old saying,"You get what you pay for", keeps whispering in my ear.[X(]

The power is compareable. The biggest difference is lack of vibration. Any twin will be smoother and idle better.
I am currently in a debate with myself. I need a 60ish twin for Pitt's build I'm fixin to start. Been debateing over the CRRC55 or the DLE60. Will probably go with the 60 for the little bit of difference of H.P.

You have any idea how easy it would be to save a couple hundred and go with the DLE55 single. But I want the twin, so.

Scott, for what it's worth, I have helped a couple guy's at my airfield break-in and fine tune their CRRC's, including a couple twin's, and they run as good as any other. Only thing I would suggest, outside of the owner's manual, is start with synthetic oil and don't go any leaner than 40-1.

I run avgas using dino-oil for break-in and then Klotz synthetic @ 40:1.

An update on my decision. I bought the CRRC 55cc twin. First thing I did was install a Bowman ring. I mounted it to an isolation mount on my test stand and broke it in. It is super smooth at idle, transitions very well, and the top rpm is above spec. Very happy with this engine. The Pitts is getting close to being ready for it. I can't wait.

I have two CRRC 40's and the ignitions went away right off, bet you will be purchasing a new RCexel very soon, my XYZ 50 HP on my GUS did the same, Why can't the Chinese just send them out with a good CDI in the first place?

How about a Kavan 50?
Oil sump, pump, dipstick, built like the scale aircraft engine it is.
