1st life battery attempt ends poorly
So after reading all the hype, I decided to try some of these life packs. I purchased 2-2000 mah and 1-1600 mah life packs fromm Bp hobbies along with the recommended charger. Charged all 3 packs and installed into two airplanes, 1-2000 for in one plane and 1-2000 for rx ,1-1600 for ignition in another. Put two flights on each plane. 1-2000 pack is fine, still reading 6.6v. Both packs in the other plane are dead. The 2000 is puffed and the 1600 is just dead. None were charged a second time.
So that's it for me and life packs. I'll stick with my nimh which have never given me so much as an ounce of trouble.
I'm almost ready to quit all together. It's seems quality across the board has dropped significantly in this hobby. All I seem to do anymore is battle with my equipment. Slightly frustrated as you can tell.

I agree on battery packs. I have gotten some Nicads and they don't even last 6 months and then when you send them back they give you the old sorry about that story and you are on your own. I switched to lipos and voltage regulators for my planes and have never looked back. Good Luck, Dave

I never heard of Cheetah batteries but I read they are guaranteed so maybe they will replace them. Out of the lipos I use one or two came in unbalanced and one or two did not hold up at all. Also had club members buying the Hydromax NiMh packs and having failures . When my NiCd or NiMh packs fail I'll continue to replace them with Lipos & regulators or LiFe packs.

If you're going to use these cells you should really buy them from a reputable vendor. I don't know anything about BP batteries but WrongwayRC, Hangtimes, Tail Dragger RC all sell genuine A123 cells.
I have hundreds of flights on these batteries with no issues. They hold voltage under load, they charge quickly, and they hold a charge forever when unused.

I have over a dozen LiFePO4 packs (all Hyperion brand) in use, some for over 2 years. Never had a single issue and I will never run any other kind of battery again.

I used to use LI-ions in my iMac stuff, but when I got back into the hobby I didn't want to bother with the regulators and such so I went back to nimh. I guess I've been pretty lucky with my hydrimax packs.
I will definitely try some more name brand life packs.
