Magnets
I was considering using magnets to hold my cowl and canopy on my airplane and in researching rare earth magnets, I discover that they come in many thicknesses. For instance, a 6mm round disc magnet is available in anywhere from 1 to 4 or 5mm thick. Is a 6mm round disc magnet stronger if it is 5mm thick than it is if it is 1mm thick?

I use the rare earth magnets for all sorts of things including cowl's. The deeper or larger diameter the sronger the magnet. For a cowl it will take a magnet on the fuse side and the cowl side. The Waco in the pic below has a total of ten magnets at five contact points.

RE: Magnets
Thanks, guys. I have also noticed that they come in many different grades and they usually say that N35 grade is hobby grade. I just ordered some 10mm round by 1.5mm thick N42 magnets just as a starting point and I will go from there. They are cheap. Fifty of these things were $8.99 with free shipping. Gotta start some place.
