Any idea what kind of prop you need for it?

Love to hear it run, it has a great sound.

Yup I agree,

Now wonder where we can find a replacement humongous leather drive belt that likely weighed a few hundred pounds. Probably not down at the local Pep Boys eh!

You can still find those leather belts. There is a lumber mill in the USA that runs on steam and they use them.

And yes, the sound of that engine is very unique.

Reckon you could balance an ESM warbird with one of those

I wonder what an engine like that was used in? Machine shop? Ships?

Probably not with just the engine, but once you add the 8 inch steel I-Beam engine mounts, you are probably right!

Possibly to run a power generator or water pump?

Those Fairbanks Morse hit and miss diesels are very unique parts of history.
Here's a 24hp 2-stroke diesel that was running (away) on crankcase oil and not diesel fuel. Oops.

My favorite FBM engines are the horizontals. I think they're quieter than the verticals.

Looks like the newer ULEV (ultra low emission vehicle) engines have some serious competition with this engine.
I got a kick out of the perfect smoke rings that it blows at times.
