The FAA's DC-3 N34
Some of you are aware that I take care of a DC-3 for the FAA. The week before Christmas we made what may be her last flight. But we were lucky enough to get some TV time out of it

RE: The FAA's DC-3 N34
It's odd that the first ten years that this plane was used from 85 to 95 the public was absolutely supportive of keeping the plane flying. Since the war on terror kicked off, at least once each day at little venues and once an hour at places like Reno and the air races one visitor will ask "why are you wasting my tax dollars like this?" As a tax payer too I find it difficult to give them a meaningful answer.

RE: The FAA's DC-3 N34
what a great lookin' airplane!! Why are they hanging it up anyway? One of the best looking DC-3's out there, IMO. Isn't it going to the Smithsonian? I was lucky enough to get a walk thru a few years back.
BTW: I'm not sure where my full-sized pics are, i had to d/l these back from Ofoto - i hope i can find them!!

The Smithsonian said it wasn't hsitorically significant enough to warrent being in their collection. And they don't have the room once everthing else they have is restored.

Give Clay Lacy a call. Perhaps he could find a place for it next to his restored United DC-3.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but...My old friend N34 really did take what will most probably be her last flight last Thursday 2/13/14 to the Texas Air and Space Museum in Amarillo TX. She'll be on display for all of you to see and enjoy starting in March 2014.
