I believe USPS will ship up to about 130" length plus girth and like 60lbs or so, Although at a much higher rate than FedEx.
USPS is great for small cheap packages.

Every carrier is different and just like searching for deals on your hobby stuff, you need to shop around. USPS is great for small items, either under 4lbs or that'll fit in a Priority Flat Rate box. UPS & Fedex shine in the mid size box range where USPS gets ridiculous, then USPS comes out on top in the large but light box range with Standard Post.
FWIW, all of the carriers have charged by box size for years, it's called "dimensional weight". They're adjusting their rates due to the crushing influx of huge packages from Amazon and other online retailers. Many people, myself included, do a large percentage of their shopping online. The larger packages are lowering the dollar per cubic foot of volume on the trucks, so they need to charge more to make up that difference. You'd do it too, if you suddenly had dozens of large packages that were $50 and they each took up the space of twenty $15 packages.

You have to shop them all. I shipped a ton in the last year. Sold a huge estate on ebay. UPS was the last one to use. Fedex was 1/2 the price, and on small stuff, the usps flat rate boxes were the way to go. UPS was double fedex on almost every kit I sold. They used to be the best game in town, but not no more.
