Yesterday I turned 60 and No. 3 grandson James (4 years old and grandpa's little buddy) decided he needed to pick out a present for grandpa. He knows I like airplanes so he latched on to this and wouldn't take No for an answer. No. 4 son Scott who gets married in June gave me this card.

It's some paint job isn't it? James is coming over this weekend, I told him he could bring his parents it was up to him, and I am going to let him help pick the spot in the backyard. He was pretty proud of it and I want him to know where it is displayed so he can check on it when he is here. I saw a flying Water Buffalo I guy built in Thailand I wonder if I should build a flying pig for Jimmy? I could base it on a high winged trainer and add dupron sides to make it look like a pig. I'll have to take a good long thionk on it.

I really like the "battering ram wing" bird. It reminds so much of my hangar queen saulnier. I bet it is a fun flying machine especially with that huge engine. you did a nice job on the finish.
The grass in my fields has grown very high upon cutting it I found a huge bunch of metal sheeting held together by steel bars it was about twelve feet across as I cut around it I found some 4" steel tube welded in a box shape and it weighed a ton, too heavy to lift, I realized it came from the neighboring place and a storm had blown it into my field, I could see where it passed through the fence. have to get it removed it would destroy any farming equipt. that hit it. I am picking up loads of lumber all over the place. Just catching up on the honeydo's.

I need it to stay together long enough for me to get away from here. The man swore my roofing problems are over...................... yea, sure!
we expect bad weather tomorrow so it will get a workout soon.

I finally got to spend some time in my shop this week, It is hard to explain how it seems to improve my well being, and Good progress was achieved on two planes. I have two king kobras on the bench and the kit version is further along and is the one I want out of the way so I proceeded to finish up but I am using a waterborne polyurethane to bond silkspan on the surface and it seems to be doing a good job, just slow to dry. I am starting on the bottom just in case it turns into a disaster................. I also did more covering with flite metal on the mustang with better results and am very encouraged by the results.
The thing that gets me is I don't know when to stop adding scale features, I have modified this bird in so many ways I cant even remember what I have done. Tuesday I modified the nose cowling to follow the scale lines of the full scale version and have been able to improve the appearance of areas completed earlier. I'll try to remember to post a pic or two. what have you guys been working on lately?

My 5 acres of fence. Still have more to do today and tomorrow, hoping to get it all done. Cut down trees, put up new fence, fix the spray cart and spray the fields for weeds and feed. After that I have still more trees to cut down, then have to chip the branches, and stack for firewood. Since some are pine trees, I can use the wood in my firepit and not worry about the sap and tar.

The weather here has been gray and gloomy, Friday it rained pretty good, we needed it. Problem is we had a warbird meet scheduled for Friday and Saturday so I did not expect many contestant to show up, I was wrong. Saturday started kinda ugly but quickly warmed up to a real nice day with a constant cross wind at the runway, but it did not slow anyone down, I arrived to a no place to park situation with a bunch of spectators, and a flight of four Cessna 150's in Air Force paint scheme with smoke flying formation, with the flight line packed with planes.
one of the gentlemen from Mexico took delivery of a new engine ........... Needles to say he was rather pleased, but later on he wiped out a huge P-47 with a Moki 250 radial.

Flitemetal panel application, some is kitchen foil.
A closer look
This is what I have been up to in my shop. I am getting better applying it and my progress is moving along well. these still need some finishing but I will hold off until they are all installed I am still learning.
I am also working on two pattern birds (king kobras) and have just applied silkspan over a nitrate doped base with a waterbased polyurethane.

Wow! these pics are posting huge I hope they don't overload the system, I reduced the pixel count quite a bit in the camera to prevent this to no avail.

They post just fine. Suggestion on the next one you plan to cover. Switch from nitrate to https://eugenetoyandhobby.com/shop/e...IaAu61EALw_wcB for the first coat on the balsa, then finish up with the WB poly.
Goes on much faster, and dries faster. The EZE Kote doesn't warp the balsa like the WB poly would because it's thicker. Since it is the same chemical makeup as Minwax WB Poly, it will crosslink with the Minwax(or other brand) and bond nicely. Problem with going WB over Nitrate is the lack of crosslinking if the Nitrate has sealed the wood 100% and doesn't give a place for the Poly to get a grip. I used this system on my Corsair and it came out great.

The weather was also glorious in central France yesterday but as I had guests staying I couldn't stay long at the flying field. I flew my vintage Junior 60. The first flight was rather short as I had misread the battery charge and I soon ran out of electricity but on the second flight with a fully charged LiPo I hit a real brick-lifter of a thermal and I flew for over fifteen minutes. Gliders are very popular at my club, whether powered by electric motors or not, and there were three tugs at the field to tow the genuine gliders up, but at one stage my little Old Timer was higher than all of the gliders and so small that I had difficulty with orientation!
It's hardly streamlined and it weighs 4.75lbs, (2.15kgs) but it was a memorable flight!

No camera, no phone, I shun cell phones like the plague. They eat time and attention up like a hungry shrew. If someone needs me call the house, leave a message, and I will get back with you if I interested. Messages from politicians, fraudsters, sales people, pollsters, and robo recordings will be promptly deleted and politicians and sales calls will be blacklisted.
