I recently ordered 45 bucks worth of stuff from Hobby King, sent from Hong Kong. Nothing but good job to say about them, order came fast, packaged well, everything was fine! I will order from them again.

I've been pretty hard on Hobby King in this post, some of you folks have shamed in that regards so I decided I'd give them another shot and I must admit that so far it has not been at all unpleasant but I have not had any returns or messed up orders and all has been delivered in a timely manner competitive with any of the other vendors. I am now awaiting a third order from them, hope I don't have to eat my words of kindness.

I would think with all the bad press HK gets they will have cleaned up their act at least for a while, The real test is what will be going on with them a year from now.

Always pays to keep a jaded eye, not just for them but other vendors also.

Smile ripped off

Well heres the thing, Some people feel they have been hard done by, some probably have, some probably not.
I am not defending HK but I Have been a HK customer for over 10 years and in the main ie 99.999% they have been well priced, fairly prompt and ssomewhat helpful.
They are by no meaas perfect and I think thhey probably pay little to the support people who try but often fall short yet6 who (and what organsisation) doesnt?
Their web site s aweful compared to the original (IMHO) and I find presales help is always a challenge buttry some of the pure Asian sites where English is a token skillset at best. its not the peoples faault and I have to say They do a far better job at understanding and replying in English than I ever could if i tried in Chinese.
I imagine they get a lot of dodgy complaints to contend with, such as "i didnt get my gear' or "it was burnt out when i opened the box" (not when I accidently applied 240V!).so we have to asses each case on limited info. But lodging legitimate gripes is very helpful as people can see trends and the vendor can fix an issue. So its always worth clearly explaining your issue with the supplier first.

100 % agreed. I have close to 40 orders and a hand full of doa items. Sometimes they just want a picture and sometimes a video to process your refund. It's a bit of work, but understandable that they ask for some proof. I always got my money back or I got a replacement.
Not a fan of the new site layout either, I find myself looking elsewhere more now.

Not a fan of Hobby Klunk sooner pay a few bucks more and support my favorite hobby shops. They support me and if they don't carry what I want make an effort to find it for me at a reasonable price. Very knowledgeable people and friendly too.

Three years ago I posted the message I've quoted below . Three years later I still believe it holds 100% true , folks either love or hate HK and there isn't much anyone here is gonna say that's gonna be changing anyone's views of HK . To be honest , Mr. flyoz , I'm surprised you've never heard the expression "Let sleeping Dogs lay" ? If you like HK why would you bump a three year old HK bash thread ?

I don't know what it is with some sites today. E-Bay used to be very fast loading one's watch list. Since a couple months ago, it's very slow loading, very clunky, thumbnails seem to have too high of pixel resolution for this function. I delete an item, it has to start from the beginning again. What did they do, fire their good programmers and got some home buddy to do the work? It just doesn't make sense.

I've watched sites degrade. At one time, Yahoo Groups was very efficient, fast loading, user friendly. Then they modified the look and feel to "modernize" it, to the extent is is very hard to read and follow threads. That is why I no longer frequent their groups.

I liked the look and feel of the older Hobby King website, loaded fast, logically laid out, fast to navigate. They seem to hire the same software programmers as E-Bay and Yahoo, sad.

My e-Bay works the same as always, your problem might be your browser ( I switch between Internet Explorer and Firefox to find out if that's the issue), also your internet service provider can freely slow down certain sites and services. If other people in your area with the same provider have this problem, you may want to switch to another.

Guys 'n Gals,

I always use PayPal to order from Hobby King. After I got the CS runaround from HK some years ago I put in a dispute and then claim through PP. PP got my $$ back from HK!

I've read a lot of complaints about HK over on RCG (https://www.rcgroups.com/hobbyking-441/), and one common complaint is when HK drags their feet in issuing a refund, which they will do in order to collect as much interest as possible on YOUR money, and you open a PayPal dispute, they will not process your refund until you close the PayPal dispute. Of course, once you close the PayPal dispute you cannot reopen it. You are then right where HK wants you: at their mercy.
I've read enough about HK from sites all over everywhere to place them firmly on my Do Not Buy From list.

HK service isn't good, but better than it used to be. I don't think them being slow about processing refunds has to do with interest. It probably has more to do with being understaffed and hiring the laziest, least educated, cheapest workers they can in the customer service department.
If you buy something from Tower and there is a problem, they'll usually just ship out a new one with no hassles. You pay for that service by paying their prices. They generally sell better stuff too though, so you aren't as likely to have a problem anyway. If you want that kind of assurance, then pay for it. HK is good if you want to buy components in bulk or you aren't in a hurry. If you have a problem give them a chance to make it right, then do a Paypal or credit card dispute and stick with it.

No, I see something else going on. I have about 100 items in my watch list. Prior, it would load quickly. What I see is sloppy HTML programming. I go to ended items, delete one item. The screen is refreshed with all items for a short bit, then goes back to ended items. I see "beauty" over function, use of higher level tools versus "know how", anticipation of faster internet speeds to make up for sloppy wasteful use of bandwidth.

Anyway, enough of my off-topic rant. Two years ago I ordered from Hobby King's USA warehouse, then had a $2 Chinese money exchange fee added to my US purchase. I complained to their customer service. They returned the fee as a credit toward next purchase. Thus I gathered they will attempt to make things right if given a chance. The comment about them being understaffed may be true, but I'd give them the benefit of the doubt first and allow them a chance.

Regarding using PayPal, that is a viable option. Credit card, depending on your bank may have latitude. If you have problems with your card, it may be time to change banks. In the past I have fired my bank and used another for providing poor service.

For this reason I will never use Discover. Discontinued them 11 years ago, have no plans to ever use them again.

I use Discover like a checking account. Pay off the balance in full every month. They do my expenditure record keeping for me and I pay them online. I seldom have to write a check or use cash for over a $10 purchase. Plus I get a kickback on all purchases, which I apply to the outstanding balance. All I have to do is keep an eye on my checking account. Credit cards can by very handy as long as one doesn't overspend the monthly income.

I do the same, Charley, had them for many years. I don't do credit card loans (balances). Then 11 years ago had a bad experience with their customer service. Since I have done fine without them, Visa and my bank do a much better job (my last post on this issue).

I'd be embarrassed to let anyone know that I shop at HobbyKing. You HK shoppers need to work a little bit longer and perhaps a little bit harder so that you can elevate yourself out of that bottom rung of the ladder.. Only people outside the USA who are taxed to death by their socialist government have a valid excuse for shopping there. Anyone else shopping there should feel the need to keep it a secret. LOL

Yup, agreed. To me, HK is another viable source for stuff I need along with others.

Gotta disagree with the "love 'em or hate 'em" crowd. I am what I would classify as neutral in terms of my feelings for HK. I've probably ordered from them a dozen times at most, almost exclusively small stuff but one or two orders that were a couple hundred bucks or more. I have always ordered with them expecting that, sooner or later, I would get screwed. I have not yet but won't be surprised if it happens. But, bottom line, I can live with or without them and am not firmly planted in either the love 'em or hate 'em camp.
