As the Forum Manager here at RCU all I have to say for this question is "Oh Boy!!!!!".

This could get fun!!!!!

I don't mind a discussion like this guys, but let's keep it friendly. Let's keep it clean. And by all means let's not make it personal. I'm sure many of our older members have labeled some other members as "Trolls", but this thread is NOT going to serve as a place to call them out or publicly label them as such. So long as we keep this as a light and friendly discussion I have no problems with it, but if it gets ugly I'll pull it. So let's not go down that road guys, ok??

A troll is a small supernatural being in Scandinavian and Norse mythology that is not helpful to human beings. The not helpful to human beings apples to trolls on the foremost!

It's someone who joins a forum for the sole purpose of trying to pick fights, bash companies, provoke others etc.

Exactly , it's someone looking for a fight no matter what the conversation is about . The type who would fight to the death the point of whether the Sun is yellow or orange . And most certainly it's someone who attacks people rather than attacking the subject at hand , trying to belittle the poster , rather than the idea that's being posted that supposedly bothers them so .

For the real troll , it isn't about the belief itself , or any belief for that matter , it's about the reaction of anger being brought out of the trolled poster who has finally had enough and ends up goaded into yet another useless internet slap fest .

Yea , I've seen a troll or two about , but thankfully their numbers here are minimal , compared to other sites I know of , ever see some of the dustups on classic car forums ?

Thats a very harsh definition.I was thinking like someone that spends his time scanning the forums trying to find something to comment on irregardless of his knowledge of the matter under discussion. Like trolling for fish.

I love TLH101's picture , that sums up perfectly what I think an internet troll is . The type that Dirtybird is referring to , I usually think of those as "Instant internet expert , just add subject" . The type that parrots all the other "experts" even if the info is dead wrong . Those types can be either funny to watch or downright dangerous , depending on the validity of the "advice" they are repeating , and God help you if you dare try to correct a mistaken notion , once written someplace , anyplace , on the internet , it's been cast in stone and written as law ...

I think another definition of troll is: A person that follows another poster around the forums only to attack that poster on anything and everything he posts.
