Default RC Airplane Fuel

I have a gallon jug of fuel and I'm wondering if there is a shelf life with this fuel. I've had the fuel for about 13 years.

As long as it wasn't exposed to air it should be OK.

As long as it was not exposed to direct sunlight for long periods of time and the seal is still intact in the neck of the bottle, go for it.

Thanks guys. It's been in my basement where it's fairly dark and was not exposed to air. Cap has always been on it.

I'm just getting into flying after 13 years. I built a model 15 years ago but was afraid to fly it for fear of crashing. Then my DW bought me a trainer and I never pursued flying it until now. I'm retired and we go to FL from NH in the winter. Some days are pretty long with nothing to do so I thought about taking it up. I did make contact with a local club a couple of months ago so now I'm in the process of dragging out all the stuff I have and getting it ready for next year in Fl.

I have several cans of 10+ year old glow fuel. Each season, I open a fresh container, and they pose no problem.

What is your experience with old fuel, that would compel you to make your statement ?

Tom and the others here are 100% correct , properly stored glow fuel has no "shelf life" , since with the exception of becoming contaminated with moisture due to improper storage , there is nothing that "spoils" in there .

I have around 20 gallons of Powermaster in the metal cans stored in a cool dry place and each one has been perfect when I opened them . 10 + years old as well , maybe older .

It ain't like a jug of milk that becomes cottage cheese when left in the fridge a month or few beyond it's expiration date ......

Yes , avoiding sunlight is said to help the fuel stay fresh , mines in a nice cool dry and dark basement .

Do you have any experience in this, or are you just building up your post count ?

Gee , in the span of a few short posts , Captain Caveman appears to have forgotten how to spell "Fuel" .

OR ,

In the span of a few short posts , he's forgotten that "Fuel" isn't one of the words he regularly purposefully misspells ........

The fuel (not fule) I have has been stored in the original plastic jug. It has been off the floor in my basement and is on a table in a small cardboard box and kept closed since I put it in there 13 years ago.

Well lets see , We've got most of the board's established posters saying that if it's been stored well , it will be fine . The one naysayer , who appears to have a problem remembering which words he deliberately misspells , has posted something to the effect that some guy who used to sell fuel hasn't a clue how long it'll last , and still the guy wants to use that to bolster his position ?

Properly stored ? It'll run fine .....
