Need pointers on restoring old RC10GT
Hi-
I just got my old RC10GT (nitro) out of the closet and would like to get it up and running again. There is sludge in the fuel tank so I need to clean that out somehow. Any thoughts on what to flush it out with. Also, the pull starter looks to be broken as the string is all the way out and stuck. Also, most importantly what are the steps I should take in order to get this going again? It is about 15 years old I think and has been in the closet that long. I basically don't remember anything about how this car works.
Thanks, j

You have the manual, so you're ahead of the game.
Associated has an excellent manuals page for discontinued models.

Lots of parts are still available for the RC10GT. I bought a bunch of stuff for mine from Tower a couple years back.
Sludge in the tank is normally the lubricant left after the alcohol in the fuel has evaporated. Use methanol or some fuel to rinse it out. Make sure you blow out the lines as well, or better yet replace them.
Guessing you have an OS engine in there, you can find the manuals w/parts lists on their website. The displacement and model (CV, CX etc) is normally cast into the side of the crankcase. You may get lucky and find a new pull start assembly on Tower's site. It may be gummed up with oil, or the spring may be broken. won't know until you take it apart.

I've resuscitated lots of old fuel cars. They seem to age pretty well, normally only needing a good cleaning and lube, some fresh fuel lines and maybe engine bearings. If the bearings in the engine have rusted, they should be replaced before you run it much.
