World-Class Aerobatics Pilot Chip Hyde Joins TEAM RCU
TEAM RCU seeks to strengthen links among pilots, events and hobbyists
LONE TREE, CO -- RCUniverse.com announced today that Gordon "Chip" Hyde joined TEAM RCU as its premier corporate-sponsored pilot. Hyde will fly the RCUniverse.com colors on his aircraft at shows and competitive events. “We are very excited to have Chip join TEAM RCU. We have worked hard to make RCUniverse.com the best radio control destination on the Internet and it only seems fitting to have one of the best RC pilots in the world on our team!" said Marc Vigod, President of RCUniverse.com.
TEAM RCU was established in October 2003 to connect hobbyists with RC pilots at competitions, local events, and industry trade shows. The Hyde sponsorship represents the first in a series of planned sponsorships designed by RCUniverse.com to offer greater exposure to professional and amateur pilots in several flight disciplines, including scale, jet and helicopters. TEAM RCU also plans to add radio control car and truck drivers to its sponsor roster as well.
"I have dedicated the majority of my life to promoting and competing within the radio control hobby and RCUniverse shares my same passion and dedication. Their rapid growth and expanded reach to all areas of the hobby convinced me that they are the leading online player in the R/C industry. I am glad to be working with them," said Hyde.
Hyde has won numerous titles throughout his young, but impressive career. He is a 12-time National Champion, 11-time U.S. World Team member, the 1991-93 World Champion in F3A, and the 1999-01 World Champion in F3D. The first pilot to win World Championships in two different disciplines, Hyde won the Tournament of Champions three times, including the final one in 2002 as well as the Helicopter Nationals in 2001 and the XFC (Extreme Flight Championship). Clearly gifted with the sticks, Hyde began flying at only 4 years of age and won his first pattern competition at the age of 5.
Hyde worked as a contractor for the United States Army, training soldiers on the Hunter and Shadow UAV's (Unmanned Air Vehicles) both as internal and external pilots. He is currently preparing to introduce his own line of aircraft including a 1.6-50cc Cap 232 and his trademarked 40-50cc Double Vision 3D Bi-Plane. For more information on Chip Hyde and his line of aircraft, please visit www.chiphyde.com.
RCUniverse.com is the largest and most active R/C-oriented community Website. With more than 70,000 registered members and over 1.2 million discussion posts in less than 2 years, RCUniverse offers an unparalleled level of services to members of the radio control hobby with superior technology and full-featured tools and resources.

Well, I know I'm gonna catch it for this, but I "gots ta do it"; nomex is on and the bunker is secure...
No disrespect aimed at Mr. Hyde- he's earned his accolades- but am I the only one that sees a bit of irony in this? We've been told, over and over again, that the reason for the mainly unpopular fees, etc., on RCU were due to rising costs of running the site. Okay, that stands to reason.
So now the site is touting a major corporate sponsorship??? I guess the straits weren't that dire, eh???

Not really, Steve.
By sponsoring a pilot, RCU is giving back some to the community. And, yes, of course, sponsoring a world-class pilot will reap benefits (read that also as benefit$) for RCU.
Marc and the other Suits can run the site as they see fit....

Unless there is a Funeral, I seriously doubt you will see "suits" on these RCU guys
Although..... That could be the new uniform for TEAM RCU. I wonder if Chip will mind flying in the Arizona sun with a nice black suit? Now were talkin!

Just wanted to clarify stuff for you. We never cried "dire straits". We also never filed for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS as a charitable non-profit organization. We are a business trying to provide great services to our members AND generate revenue. The site DOES require a bunch of money to run, but that is really our problem as a business and ultimately if we don't provide a fair level of services for what small fees we do charge, we won't succeed as a business. To that extent, we are interested in understanding which fees are "unpopular" as you describe it.
Most everything on the site is free. We provide 4 free ads in the marketplace per year. If you use up your 4 free ads and wish to post ads a-la-carte, then it's about 99 cents to post a classified ad for a $250 item. Auctions are completely free and have been for about a month! eBay charges for their service and delievers less functionality.
If you don't like the fees for classified ads, you don't have to post classifieds. You can post auctions with "Instabuy" pricing. If you do want to post classifieds and don't want to pay for each ad, 20 bucks buys an entire year of free ads. That's a buck 67 a month. Not bad, eh?
I'm not sure if you had bad information, but I really would like to know what fees are stirring up people's feelings. We have tried to keep things fair for members while maintaining a very high level of service. I'm sorry you feel like our charging fees is wrong in some way.
Michael

Or Should I get the Avistar or the Hobbistar??? Or will I be able to 3D my 40% Extra with a OS .46 FX and a tuned pipe???
Not dis-respecting him, BTW, I have an enourmous respect for him and all the other guys that fly like him.
I do also think that a little chat with him about 3D manuevers would sure be interesting.....
