RCU soon moving to new host for MUCH MORE speed!
We have completed our negotiations with our new host provider. Our new servers will be up by Friday and ready for our development team to start uploading data, customizing scripts and paths and then final testing before we flip the switch over. I am hoping this will be done sometime late next week and we can light up RCU in its new fast environment.
We are moving from 6 T-1 which is 9MBps aggregate bandwidth to a 100Mbit pipe which is actually well over 10x the bandwidth we currently have available. We have dedicated 5 dual processor servers to run the main site and another 2 dual processor servers to run only ads for even more speed. We are on a 100Mbit load balancer dedicated to RCU as well.
In the past few weeks the site has slowed down considerably. At times it has been painfully slow at least for me. While our new solution for hosting costs us more than double what we were paying the service level it offers is several orders of magnitude higher so it is worth it.
I thank everyone for your patience as we upgrade our systems once again and I do hope this will be the last slowdown we will see for years to come.
We do anticipate a few hours of downtime during the transition while we move the live databases over to the new servers. We will try to do this at an "off" hour so we don't affect most users. A notice will be posted as we approach closer to the date of transition.
