Locking gluw plug wrench w/ meter.........
Has anyone ever heard of one of these? I had a customer come in and ask for one and I had no idea. I asked if he meant a glow plug ignitor with a meter he said "no". I asked if he meant a 4 point glow plug wrench he said "no , thats not what I asked for. Look idiot, do you have one or not?" So ........LOL, am I really an idiot or was he just asking for something that is hard to come across or actually called something else? Thanks

Sounds like the old McDaniel locking glow driver with the meter in the top. I think they may still be available. I have seen these units in the past and they seem to work well. Sounds like the guy who was asking was the idiot since he cannot give you a good description.
Try this site. I think this is what he was asking for.

Thanks, I guess I am an idiot. I'd never seen one of those before. I don't think anyone out here in Vegas carries Mcdaniel. Thanks again. The guy seemed to just be more and more irritated the more questions I asked trying to narrow it down. I always try and get as much info as possible and then some recommendations or the item the person is looking for but I may change my tactics. It's hard being a hobby store employee. LOL

Never seeing one before does not make you an idiot. We all learn something new every day. Your numb nuts customer needs to learn this too. He is the idiot for talking to you the way he did.....period.
You are the smart one. You took the time to research his request, even though his description was weak.

Thanks guys, I figured he was just "one of those" but I still can't believe the kind of people that become part of this hobby. they don't have any patience. I've learned that's one of the BIGGEST aspects of flying.

Tower hobbies also carries one (probably made by McDaniel), it is the purple one they carry. They, and H-9 also make one that you can replace the battery in. Those have a metal case. The towers ones are annodized blue, the H-9 are annodized red.

I've seen it and almost purchased one by accident.
The boat guys use 'em. It looks like a socket and from what I understand, with this type of igniter, the glow plug, while ignited, is initially loosened to decrease compression so that the starter can easily turn the engine.
Once the engine is running, the glow plug is tightened down with the actual igniter.
That, however, doesn't make you an idiot. Ignorant would be more appropriate and that's just fine, because so was I, 'till I found out what it was.
