Default PLEASE Don't Let This Happen To You !!

Earlier this week a close friend of mine was flying at a local RC
field BY HIMSELF. He was starting a S/T 3250 on his plane. In the
process of priming the carb. he had forgot to lower the throttle
back down. Using a thick leather glove he gave it a flip and the
sudden full power pulled the restraint out of the ground and the
prop hit his hand and forearm. If it wasn't for the flight box, the
loss would have been much greater. He lost his index finger at
the base and more than half of his third finger and gashes with
nerve damage to the forth plus several severe gashes up his right
arm. He was able to find some rope and slow the blood loss
while he drove himself to the nearest ER. This is an experienced
RC pilot that had just a moment of lack of concentration.

Guys, you need to give this hobby your undivided attention when your starting or flying your planes. This one second tragedy is
going to impact the rest of his life. He and I are both competition
Trap & Skeet shooters and his vocation is or was window glazing.
He asked me tonite how he was going to be able to carry and set
sheets of glass and learn to shoot left handed with his left eye.

To top this off, he called the AMA about the insurance and the
dismemberment clause with loss of work. The lady said he would have to loose his thumb to be covered. Something seems rotten here.

THINK !! THINK !! WHAT YOU ARE DOING !!

Reiss, Sorry about your friend,I had a close call last summer with my Saito 180 but not nearly as bad as your friend. Maybe I can help him learn to shoot left handed,I shoot both but mostly left.

I am very sorry to hear of your friend's accident. keep us informed of his progress, and of special interest to me is how AMA will handle his claim.
