Default Ford or Chevy? Neither-Mopar!

Futaba or J R? neither-Airtronics! Am I such an oddball? Futaba has Great Planes to promote their products, J R has Horizon to promote thier products. But Airtronics has a loyal following,I switched from Futaba to Airtronics in 1989 because they had a better narrow band radio. 2 Vanguards,a Spectra,a Vision and a Stylus. Never had a problem in 14 years.

I have always use Airtronics for the simple reason, they are less expensive for the same features I wouldn't but anything else now never had a problem with them. Maybe I'm just cheap.

Killer customer support? They refuse to do any online support at forums such as RCU, and when last I checked didn't even make their product manuals available online.

I like Airtronics. I use their products. That said, they're a brand in decline. They've got inept marketing, the poorest online support in the business, and a relatively shallow product line.

Mike,
Have you ever called on the phone for service or support? Personally, I would rather talk to a human than a computer screen when I have a problem or question. I get an answer now, not when someone gets a chance to check-in on the forums.
Oh, and BTW, product manuals: http://www.airtronics.net/2004_manuals.htm
in PDF format.

I've had Futaba and Airtronics, and I'd take Airtronics quality wise over Futaba any day, particularly their servos. Online support means zip to me, I wanna talk to a real person, so I don't care if they are part of RCU or not. For that matter, maybe they have perfectly good reasons for not getting into RC forums.

The nice thing about online support is being able to get an answer now. Look at how the JR and Futaba support forums here at RCU have grown, and the wealth of knowledge contained in them. With a simple search I can find most anything I'm looking for. My problems aren't often unique enough to require a new thread. I can use those resources anytime--not just between 7am and 3:30pm PST Monday through Friday. Most of my RC time is outside of normal working hours.

It is nice to see that they've put some of the manuals online, but it would be nicer if it was a complete set.

I'll take Hitec and Fords...Mopar is a slow car....Remember, you started this by using the reference between cars and radios.

pagani zonda and the best radio you can afford. not a 20 channel for your glider thing. get the radio that just fills your needs but then go one up so you have the scope for expansion.

I'm a hitec guy.
The best part is that I've never needed customer support.

I'm 75% Airtronics and 25% JR.....both have never failed me. Of course I've been flying ONLY for 25 years, JR for 3 . Some of my Airtronics servo wires are so old they are stiff!

Jerry

PS I drive the BEST TRUCK - it's PAID FOR!!!!!!!

Why would I want a Ford? What's the point of being an R/C pilot if you can't get to the flying field?

Yeah, I can say Hemi. I can also say not the most efficient combustion chamber design anymore.

I knew this thread was gonna quickly degenerate into a car wars thing. I made my living fixing cars and dealing with their idiot owners for 24 of the most miserable working years of my life. Don't miss the work or the real intelligent amateur mechanics at all. Some folks could break a solid steel anvil if you gave 'em one. Paint Ford, GM, Chrysler, or any import name you want on your anvil, someone will come along and break it.

I still can't tell the difference between a Camaro, a Trans Am and a Formula. Doesn't really matter, cuz they're all butt-ugly.

I like my Futaba's and have no complaints. All the major brands work, so arguing for one over the other is pointless. I'd really like to give Multiplex a try though.
