Fedex simi over turn lost load.
Just thought I would give a heads up, I just heard over the news here in Austin, TX a simi fedex truck over tured on IH-35 heading north, lost its load. Ponders to think someone's new 35% extra, smashed before it was even built.

Or worse, it was ready to fly and was bought through a private sale. Trying to get FedEX to pay out a claim on a model is getting to be like pulling teeth.

I guess I should mention that the driver made it out unharmed.

PS. My last comment was incredibly rude and insensitive to all American Truckers. I apologize if anybody was offended, had their feelings hurt, suffered emotional distress or began taking anti-anxiety medications as a result of it.

At least it made it into the truck... UPS can wreck a plane before it even makes it in the truck.. There's a reason those trucks are that particular shade of brown.

Talking about freight damage. Back in the mid eighties when I owned a Hobby Shop in Austin I had a customer pre-pay for the first Futaba 9VAP to be sold in Central Texas. When the day finally arrived the UPS guy brought the radio into my store and it rattled when he walked it in. An examination showed that the box had been run over and it just so happened that the tire marks matched up with the tread on the truck that brought the radio to my store.

Still staying in the UPS vein, I want to relate an incident involving a shipment long ago from Heathkit. They believed in really packing shipped electronics, and on one occasion it was proven to me they were right on the money. I sent a Receiver in to be checked, and it was returned via UPS in a 12" X 12" square box. I wondered why the big box, as this RX was just a bit larger than an average present day Futaba RX. When it was delivered, the top of the box was crushed down, and in the crease was a #12 size footprint! Someone had used my package as a "step," evidently to reach a high shelf! My driver's foot print was too small, I checked. As my RX made it home in one piece, in working order, I didn't gripe about it. Oh yeah, the box was stamped on all sides in big black bold letters "FRAGILE."

Kind of funny, really. The box was oversized, so I had to pick it up from the post office.
The desk agent handed me the box with its side caved-in, looked me in the eye and said "its alright - it has insurance on it."
I was lucky, though. There was no damage to the plane at all - the crunched-in corner is adjacent to the area where the wings were - they simply slid out of the way.

RE: Fedex simi over turn lost load.
Just recently sent my Hitec Radio in for repair. I used foam rubber for packing as I knew it would give it a soft ride not to mention I did not have any Styrofoam. Weeks go by and I receive the repaired radio back only to find it packed with three waded up rolls of paper positioned around the sides of the radio only. There was nothing under it or on top of it, the radio sit directly on the cardboard.
I'm not sure who all knows this, but paper is the worst thing to use for packing as it compresses over time and loses its cushioning effect.

i have one about ups, it doenst deal with r/c stuff but its shocking as hell. my dad designed a frame so that you could mount a generator on it and attach it to the pto and three point hitch. he has sold a few of them everyone of them had been shipped and received with out a prob. the most recent one was shipped to denver from phila. pa. this was the only one that didnt have $1000 insurence on it for some reason, miscommunication i think. when it go to denver the guy emailed my dad saying it was damaged. he emailed some pictures as well. ups dropped it and broke the number 40 chain that was being used, broke a part of the generator and my have bent the frame that the generator was in, so my dad might have to build him a new frame. he also sent a picture of the box it was a plain brown box, we shipped in an old phillips tv box. now we have to pay for this stuff because of the miscommunication at the shipping depot. could possibly have to spend $250 to fix it.

After reading some of these stories, I still would have to say that no matter how bad UPS, FedX and Airborne are I would have no problem sending again and again with those guys before I would ever use USPS again. I have to say USPS are by far the worst at handling objects and such, not to mention their customer service suc*s.
I'll give the story to this in another post, heading for work now.

RE: Fedex simi over turn lost load.
So, right before Christmas time I walked into my local USPS store to send off my Hitec for repair. This station has one of those ticket stations where you pull your number and wait your turn. Once I grabbed a hold to tare the ticket the whole roll came out of the housing and unreeled several times. I took the time to roll it back up and place back in the housing.
After waiting 15 min give or take my number was coming up. Three tellers were working, the number before mine was called no response it was called again no response. That same teller called my number and displayed it up on the counter, just as I was about to walk up the one before me came running up. My number was still displayed on the wall from one of those big-lighted number counters. Well when time came for the next teller to take a person she looked up and saw my number and assumed I'd been taken care of and called the next number after mine. I spoke up and said that I was skipped then walked up to the counter.
Not knowing what I was supposed to do for shipping I was hoping the teller would assist me in addressing with label and such, she told me that I was supposed to address it before I came up and handed me a label, directed me to move to the empty teller next to hers and address it I complied, she took the next in line. Once I was done I walked back to her and she took my package then asked me what was in it, I told her it was an R/C radio, she then asked if there were any batteries in it and I said yes. She then directed me back over to the same spot again and told me to remove the battery.
I opened up the box removed the battery from the radio then packed and taped everything up. I noticed on the floor that part of the paper work had fallen out of the box so I had to up tape the box and insert the paper work. Just as I was taping it back up for the second time, another worker that was opening up at that very same window told me to move, not asked but told me to move that he was opening up.
By this time I was already at my wits end due to be herded like a cow so I begged the guy to let me finish that I was almost done. He told me no that I would have to move, I stood there and looked at him and then said no I’m not going to, I’ll move in just a second once I’m done. He then grabbed my box snatching it out of my hands as I was rolling tape over it and moved it to the next open window.
That broke the straw I then ripped the USPS logo tape off of my box threw in on the floor behind the teller stations and spoke out loud *uck this I’m going to UPS in which I left the store in a very quick way.
The next person in line a lady told the guy that he was very rude, the told fart ignored her comment and asked if he could help her.
Needless to say I’ll not be going back to USPS for my business.
UPS were much more helpful. And they also knew which station I just came from.

RE: Fedex simi over turn lost load.
I guess I am plain lucky... in th four years that I have been in the hobby I have odered (for me or my friends at the club) at least 6 ARF's and at least 12 shipments of assorted goods from several vendors including tower, quantum, just engines, and others. To date I have not reseived a damaged box or have had anything get "lost".
Now I live in Honduras (Central America) so I have thte stuff shipped to Gulfport from where the goods are loaded in a Dole vessel(yes the fruit company) and then transported to honduras, then loaded in a pallert with stuff from other employees and finally delivered to my office.
I hope ican continue this trend as it is nearly impossible for me to return "dmaged goods" to the US
