How do YOU land?
Got myself wondering from something on another thread.....When you land, or do touch-and-go's, do you concentrate on the "landing", ie.- making a nice smooth 2-3 pointer on the runway somewhere safe and with 0 pucker factor or the "spot" where you try to plant it reasonably but "right on the money"?
Cast your vote then tell why, and how long/what you've been flying.

Thankfully, landing has always been easy for me. I landed on my first solo, which also was my first flight. But when I crash, it's because I get myself into a predicament in the air, and can't get out of it.

RE: How do YOU land?
Try to grease it with minimal or no bounce in the center third of the runway.
I've found that no matter how great a flight you made, if the landing was lousy, that's all you or your pit critics remember.
The best pilot I have ever known, who had been flying 15 years, made a complete flight of touch and goes every time he came to the field, which was twice a week, all year. In the five years I flew with him I never saw him make a really bad landing.

RE: How do YOU land?
On my 3D planes, I like to drag the tailwheel along then set the nose down. On my scale aerobatic stuff I do 3-pointers. On a trike (I don't own any however), I like to bring it in nose-high and hit the mains first and set the nose down.

I typically land it lined up near runway center, and touch down about a third of the way down the grass strip. Occasionally i'll have a bounce, but not very often.
I generally set the plane down within twenty feet of where I plan, usually much closer in calm air. (Twenty feet before, after, right or left of the chosen point.)
Been flying eight years, and this past year was flying a Super Sportster, Sportster Bipe, Cermark Bobcat, a J-3 Cub, a small trainer (my only trike), and a Decathlon.

I am the master of the bounce and go!!!!!!!
Its easier for the plane to get back into the air if you put a little spring in her step.

RE: How do YOU land?
normally i go for a nice long approach ( even with funflys ), correct glide angle, engine for height elevator for speed stuff and try to get a greaser, worked well for our comp in which i had to do a deadstick spot landing play off for first place, i got... well they didnt even bother trying to measure it, bang on the money
however, i did do this to my spitty today

I was taught that the plane should land in front of you and to hold the flare untill it looses enough airspeed to come down on it's own. The CG will have a lot to do with how fast it comes in and at what attitude so every plane is different.

RE: How do YOU land?
after first month of soloing I practised deadstick landings to force myself to think ahead, can generally land within 20 ft of the runway, most times on the landing gear, but the shed wall reveals a couple....a few...........less than a dozen not so good landings that tested the planes vertical landing abilities!!!!!

RE: How do YOU land?
I'm just happy when I LAND and not crash. But, when I do succeed in making my controlled crash, I have a tendency to set it down right at the very beginning of our runway. I mean, within 5-10 feet of the high grass/low grass line. I've even landed with a little bit of the high grass attached to my tailwheel a couple of times.
