Need a scroll saw with two position blade holder for long cuts
I'm trying to find a scroll saw that has a blade holder (pin type) that will allow cutting material longer than the throat depth. Hope some of you tool nuts can furnish some makes and models. There are no local sources and the internet search so far they have not listed this capability. I ordered a Makita SJ401 and it does not have this feature and plan on returning or fabricating.[]
I used a Craftsman once that had this feature and it seems like it would work fine for working some plane materials.
All help appreciated

I've got the Craftsman variable speed model. Other than my Dremel Mototool and my drills, this scroll saw is my most used power tool for model building.

You fellas with the Craftman saws could you furnish their model numbers and give me an idea of when you purchased them? It may be that it is universal on all their models or just selected models.
My location dictates that I will probably have to order via the net or have a second person buying them and they may not know how to recognize the blade much less if it is multiple position.

I think I can help you. Try looking at WWW.grizzly.com. Try model number G0536 it is a variable speed pin type machine that lists for 89.95$ US. It is a 16" throat or a standard machine. They also sell the model number G0537 which is a 22" throat variable speed machine. I saw one at the local outlet. They have one in Williamsport PA about 35 miles from my house. It looks nice for the 119.00$ price. They also sell the model H5698 At 159.95$ and the Dremel model H3816 for 209.95$US. The Dremel unit is popular with a lot of modelers. The last 2 will also use standard non-pin blades. The first 2 are simple, plain utilitarian units. I saw both at the store. They seem to be a good value for the money. I may buy the 22" one for myself. I want a band saw first though. So it will have to wait. You would have to contact them for shipping costs. Shipping weights are in order 35,52,40 and 40 pounds. I hope this helps.

PS: they have a huge selection of blades as well.

Mark checked out the site..They do have the tools. Their catalogue shows 5 units but not sure if they have the two position blade holders.
Must say I'm happy the dealer here refunded the $185 on the Makita SJ401 this afternoon after we assured ourselves that Makita did not offer other blade holders.

Mark: yes on the PM. What is the model number on the Dremel that you are certain this feature ?
FWIW: Grizzly identified only two models with the two position ability.
They carry H3816 Dremel Variable-Speed Scroll Saw but did not list it as two position cabable. $$$

H5698 and the G0536 both have a blade that will move to 90 degrees from the original position.

I have Dremel model #1672. It has the two position blade system you are looking for. I don't know if it is still available though. Have not seen it on store shelves for a while.
