Invention To Help All Modelers?
Hello,
I have always thought of things that would make R/C Aeromodeling much easier. So, I know others must be thinking the same thing.
Therefore, what is one thing you wish was invented, that would make R/C Aeromodeling a LOT easier/more fun?
PS- Mine would be stackable carrying cases. They might already be invented, but I have never seen them.

Fuel cells, be a lot nicer with them hehe
Umm seriously though, a product that would make modeling easier. A laser cutting tool for monokote that doesnt cost an arm and a leg[8D]

Similar to the restore feature offered on computers.
Press a button on the transmitter and your airplane will be restored to the same condition it was in 5 minutes before your foot got stuck in the mud, you looked down for a split second during a waterfall manuver to see why your foot doesn't move, and by the time you looked back up the airplane was in the "death spiral".
I think this feature would really be handy for the majority of us.

Yeah,
That would be the Holy Grail of R/C flying. But EVERYONE has to crash, its a right of passage into aeromodeling. Heck, my first crash was with my pico stick. I was sitting on my roof, doing aircraft carrier launches. It took off nicely, and I was tooling around..SNAP! The wing folded and lawn darted into the street...........(Would that make it an Asphalt Dart?) Broken gearbox, etc. Good memories. -Patrick

Maybe some of the higher-end radios have this already but to my knowledge, none of the more affordable radios have it...
A single switch Dual Rate function so that you can activate all three flight controls (rudder, elevator, aileron) by flipping just one switch.
I wish my XP8103 had this.

No restore button but the FMA Co-Pilot looks like it might help, just knowing when to let go of the stick seems to be the main requirement and the $$ to purchase!

Seriously....I know that nobody will be believe me, but I have the proof in a notebook when I thought of the idea in June 2 years ago....I'M SO PISSED OFF SINCE THAT HAS CAME OUT....SO SO SO PISSED.....everytime that I see the commercial, I get even more mad....I could be making alot of money off of that thing. And buying more R/C stuff like a heli that I'm about to work my @$$ off for one this summer......
Anways.....little off subject, but that monokote laser thing made me thing about it...

RE: Invention To Help All Modelers?
My instructor has an invention that has already proven to make giving RC flight instruction easier. He was thinking of patenting it, but I hear that it is very expensive thing to do. It is very simple and can be easily attached to any mode 2 stick transmitter. It can be used whether the instructor uses a buddy-cord or not. It makes it easier for someone with limited use of their fingers or hands, such as those with arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome - instructor or student.
It is something that a RC related company like Dubro could sell and/or produce. If there are any companies out there interested, he would be glad to discuss it with them. It's sitting in his tool box now, not doing any good for anyone, so first come, first serve.

Hmm......what could it be??........
Well that just sucks GrnBrt.........like nascarjoe said about the mula to make a patent......last year in the 8th grade, my Algebra teacher used to be a patent office person who looked over the patents that people sent in.....
Well, anyways, she told me (an I believe her) that it is only like $300 to send in a patent with all the papers for the office people too look at (don't quote me on that price, that's just what she told me, and she supposidly worked there, but I dunno??)....and if they send it back to you then you can send it back more for a charge of course.........WOW $300 I could do that (all that is, is an ARF plane......)
If you were really serious, nascarjoe, then you could come up w/ the $300 and send in a patent......here go here: [link=http://uspto.gov]Patent Office Website (uspto.gov)[/link]
Maybe you can get in touch with somebody at that Patent Office about whatever you are talking about.....
GOOD LUCK......I'm gonna keep up w/ this thread.....it's gonna be interesting......!!LOL

iflynething,
Thanks for the information and link. Lot of reading to do, but if the $300 thing is true, he shouldn't have a problem coming up with that.

RE: Invention To Help All Modelers?
I want an airspeed indicator and/or a stall warning indicator. Someone handy with electronics should be able to create a device that would emit a loud tone when the airspeed dropped below a certain level. Then maybe I'd quit living up to my name.

I really hope that that is true because I have an idea, not for R/Cers but for bikers (mountain bikers that it); its a.....well, like you, nascarjoe, I'm gonna keep it to myself...I don't want anyone taking it and making money....not like anyone would do that.....
BTW, any of you guys remember the movie Chicken Run??.....Well, my brother WAS drawing the face and body of the main character (I forgot his name) since he was like 5....but I swear if you put the chicken up to my brother Brandon's chicken drawing, you would SWEAR that they are the same thing....
We think that he was on a plane when we would go on those long trips to Rome, somebody saw the drawing and went on from there......
ABTW, I have about 2 pages full of inventions that I would really like to patent but not money to do so....
Harry; they have that same kind of stuff......that thing you hook up to your laptop AFTER you fly, and I'm glad that you thought of that because we need something that is in real time so we know before hand.....I'm sure that anyone can stall, and crash their plane, hook up that program, and figure out that they stalled, but that would be after the crash, and wouldn't be a forewarning......VERY GOOD IDEA.....!!

Sorry guy. We used a laser level to install a raised data center floor in 1979 (10 years prior to your birth).

Maybe some of the higher-end radios have this already but to my knowledge, none of the more affordable radios have it...
A single switch Dual Rate function so that you can activate all three flight controls (rudder, elevator, aileron) by flipping just one switch.
I wish my XP8103 had this.

My Futaba 9C does this. I can assign any or all to one switch, and even triple rates are possible. For $259, you can't beat it.

You are in for a shock when you go to apply for a patent, and it's just not $300. You need a patent attorney and can expect to wait a few years minimum to get it and can cost upwards of $16,000. The same guy I mentioned did it and the cost was horrendous and it was for something else.[X(]

I tell you what would be really neat is a RELIABLE, high quality, onboard wireless camcorder thingy.
OK, an AFFORDABLE, high quality, yadda yadda camcorder. I ended up strapping my entire digital camcorder (Canon XR60MC) into the cockpit of my Extra last year and it worked decently, BUT I had to rip out the pilot and modify the floor of the cockpit a good bit. Tried the Tai-Sun mini camera to, but had very limited success with it.
This technology exists all over the place but I have yet to see it consolidated in an affordable package. I would love to fly around with a live uplink to my plane. It would be even better to show off on a big screen at a fun-fly (or comp.) hehe...

I would like a chair to sit in-- attach the transmitter and then have a true joystick like a full scale to fly the plane complete with foot pedals for the rudder and throttle control, flaps, etc...... OH YEA-- I WANT IT TO COST AROUND $25.

RE: Invention To Help All Modelers?
Well,well,well....very creative today aren't we. I have several replies so I'll condense them into one post,
Zpat, I already invented your reset button for crashed planes but it's not on the transmitter. It's a really large SPACE BAR on the flight line of your flying field and just like in Real Flight you press it after a crash.
Rkramer,
Spread Spectrum is the best idea so far and I know of two (seperate) people are working on it already. Neither has sold it to one of the major manufacturers and it seems they are letting these guys do the R&D on their own and then they'll scoop it up.
Mikeinlapaz,
The co-pilot is OK for beginners but overrated for anyone else and a bit like fighting the sticks to control the plane.
Iflyanything,
You invented the laserlevel 2 years ago? Congratulations! What's next, you gonna invent the Pet Rock?
NascarJoe,
It sounds like your instructor has a parallel transmitter stick attachment. You attach it to the stick and it gives you another stick that the instructor can operate from a few inches away. It's been around for awhile. I teach without a buddy cord and just hold the stick below the students hand, faster learning than a buddy cord.
AJF-2,
The pilot simulator chair has been around for a while also. I think I even saw a thread on here about it and RCM did an article with plans some years ago...do a search! Now if you combined the chair with Silvanskiis quality realtime camera system you'd have a simulator! Then again you could just get RealFlight.
HarryLandings,
Ive seen adds on RCU for a telemetry system with a pitot tube for airspeed for about $250 and I think there is an add on to transmit the info to you. It's only money.
Everyone...Many of these things are already available for a price. Some have come and gone and will come back again. Others are in the not so distant future and some are old ideas who's time has passed. The beauty of our hobby is that you have to fly the plane and you might crash it. If it was to easy it wouldn't be any fun. If there was no risk of crashing it really wouldn't be any fun. Radios that can't get shot down might eventually happen but the AMA and manufacturers don't seem motivated to speed up the process. So keep those ideas coming but chances are you're just reinventing the wheel.

un-intellegent batteries that don't know when you are coming in to land. the average battery will see when you are landing and go dead and cause a radio glitch.

An laser cannon that burns through balsa and poly sheet - and fuel lines. Shoulder mounted would be fine.
A dude crashed his Avro Lanc into my car last year and I want payback! It'll be chopsticks before it hits terra firma.
