Yup t'is true. What I heard is it's because Chief isn't a true "hobby shop". They're just a group of people with a wad of cash that have a stash of stuff in a warehouse somewhere in oregon that ship it out to people.

I wonder if GP is violating anti-trust laws? I am no lawyer, but it seems to me that if a person buys it at the price they are required to, what they charge in the turnaround is up to them. If Chief wants to make on 5 cents per kit, it's their call. Although, I do see the other LHS's having a problem with it. I must admit though that after only 2 years in this hobby, I still don't get the differences between these huge Internet businesses that put huge discounts on the "retail" price and what you actually buy the product for. Just seems rather hypocritical of GP and others to treat buyers that way, but like I said, I probably don't get it.

If you visit Chief's website you will soon discover that hobby supplies are only a small part of their business. They have a long line of full scale equipment. As far as Tower refusing to sell to them I don't know. There is nothing in fair trade laws that dictate who must or may sell to any other business.

Because the owner of Chief Aircraft is a pompus arrogant jerk with a god complex, that does what he wants when he wants without regard for anything or anyone.

Dear Backafter-
You might wish to do some further research about Dana Blix and Chief Aircraft. I am not questioning that you may have had a bad experience with him, and I am sorry for that, but he isn't as pompous or arrogant as you may feel. I have known him for over 20 years now, and have been to his beautiful facility numerous times when dealing with him on full scale items (as a key supplier), and his business is every bit as real as any other hobby or airplane parts retailer. Yes his aggressive and sometimes predatory pricing practices have placed him in hot water with his competitors and suppliers, but Dana is very passionate about aviation, full scale and model and is very concerned about the customer. I have had some go arounds with him as well, as both a supplier and customer, but in the end, for the most part, he does the right thing to ensure customer satisfaction. I have had much worse luck with one or two small niche RC only suppliers who don't seem to care whether or not you ever buy another product from them again. Give him another chance, he should make you whole again...BTW, if you ever get a chance to deal with WildHare RC, they are setting the standard for a small RC supplier. DA engines does a great job as well....

I've visited Chief (my brother lived a stone's throw from there) and it looks like a hobby shop to me. I even bought hobby stuff while I was there. Lets see... looks like a HS, sells stuff like a HS... must be a HS.

Also true are your words concerning Desert Aircraft. Both Dave's have showed tremendous class and patience when answering my dozens of questions before I purchased my DA~50, and again with excellent customer service after the sale with regards to my questions during installation and set up.
As far as Dana from Chief goes, I have had personal dealings with him live and in person, and he has shown me that he is without a doubt, morally bankrupt and devoid of integrity.
I don't make these claims lightly, I will never EVER spend a dollar with Chief Aircraft, unless it becomes sold and under new ownership.
This also holds true for several of my friends, who had their own horror stories concerning Dana's lack of integrity, and they too, for their own good reasons won't deal with Chief ever again.
So Ralpher, you and I agree on 2 out of three, not bad, considering.
