Runover,
Do you have a hard time fitting your planes in the back of your horse buggy?

Why don't the Amish stop at 4 way stop sign intersections?
Because horses can't read.
The funniest is Amish kids on rollerblades and a horse and buggy at the drive-thru ATM machine.

This is stirring something in me that I have wanted to see for a long time. I would like to see if the R/C mags would host an article on the 100 best flying fields in the USA. What do you guys think?

RE: RE: Flying Field Pics...........
Hi Guys - Yes, I agree that you guys have some beautiful fields out there. We just fly on a nice grass strip here in Findlay Ohio. Don't have a picture here at, uh, um, ?ork to share.
I did want to ask one thing and it kind of goes along with Runover1's comments. I have a thread going in Question and Answers. I asked for anyone who could determine the coordiantes of their field to let me know. Well I just checked my little Excel file and have the coordinates for the center of the runway(s) of 687 clubs. This included the Latitude and Longitude with Elevation. I then have the Clubs name, closest town, and State info as well as a link to their website, a link to an Aerial Image, a link to the local weather for each, AMA or other numbers, and what kind of runway surface, etc etc. It's all saved in an Excel file which can be directly imported into programs like MSN's Streets and Trips. That way, when your getting ready to go on vacation, you can look up what fields are closest along the route as well as those at your destination.
I used every AMA link for clubs they had as well as the one list of clubs Tower has online. I've now got them all saved as waypoints in my GPS in the car as well, very cool. Once and awhile my wife will ask where were headed on a weekend trip, I just shrug my shoulders, say "I don't know", and we mysteriously end up at a new field and get to visit What I need now is help in finding all of those fields that don't have websites.
I'm going to take a sample of the data to the Toledo Show next month and talk to Mark and the guys at RCU to see if it would be possible to post it some how. I envision one of those maps you see on vacation once and awhile where you get to stick a pin in for your home town. If you look at the map and don't see a stick pin for you field, e-mail me with the info and I'll get the pin stuck in the map for you.
If the RCU guys aren't interested, or simply can't do it due to software limits, I might visit with Tower or somebody and see what they have to say.
Does this sound interesting to anyone else out there, or should I just keep it to myself?
I don't want to take away from this thread and the wonderful direction it is headed so either PM me or I am imcluding a link to my thread in Questions and Answers.

I love these pictures. I was actually able to find the field at "Fort Bend" by some of the info on one of the pictures and now have it added to my little database, just missing a web link.

Man, you guys with no trees in view are making me jealous....this is the home of the WCRCAF...if you look closely, you can see the runway in the shadows of the trees near the centre of the first picture...gives some idea of how close/tall they are.

As soon as I win the Lottery one of the trips I want to take is with a trailer full of planes driving around the country visiting flying fields. This thread makes me want to do it more. Laptop and cellphone modem,GPutts list and GPS and you could arrange on here to stop by many places as you go. Heck I'd even drive to fly at Philly's field!

This field has been used by our club, Clarksburg Model Aviation Club, West Virginia, for almost 35 years. It is an old recovered coal strip mine.

RE: RE: Flying Field Pics...........
Brand new opened this past January BARKS (Burlington-Alamance Radio Kontrol Society) field in Swepsonville, NC. Just south of Graham, NC
550' long by 75' wide grass (Bermuda) runway, gravel parking, sun shelter. Benches and tables to be built later this Spring.
This is our second field. It's located on a 500 acre landfill and we have exclusive use of the area.
The field was developed with the assistance of Joe Beshar, AMA Field Committee, and the generous support of our County's legislators.
That tower in the background is well more than 1/4 mile off one end of the runway and we've checked for "strange" RF signals. None found.

RE: RE: Flying Field Pics...........
I remember seeing a flying field in Lexington, KY while flying over in a FS aircraft. They had a paved runway and an awesome pavillion. It was on a landfill where they too had exclusive rights. Let me see if I can remember the link.
