Thinking about getting one, looking at the 8"?

Like to see and hear what youve got and how you like it.

Are they easy to use?

What size is the best all around one to get?

John-

I've got the STX-8 (cuts approx 9.75"x39.5"). I believe there is a newer version..... cuts faster and bigger sizes. I'm cutting the decals for mod's with one.

Probably is... Cuts a good variety of sizes. Here's a link:

I have the older version. They upgraded it last year. Looks like mostly aesthetic changes.

Default Stika!

I have an older version that has a built in scanner. Had it since 1996. Need to get a new one as mine is broken and Roland doubts it could be fixed.

I liked mine but it was limited to 3 1/2 inch high cuts. What I couldn't do on the stika I did via computer and decals.

I like the Stika.

I am considering the ST-8. I am not sure their software will work with Windows 2000 (which I use) but I also have Corel which would do whatever I needed it to and that works (from what I have read).

The STX-8 is a good little machine. I have worked with plotters for last 10 yrs or so. The max height is around 9 1/2 in. but if you panel the cuts the height is unlimited. Only problem I have ever had with mine is its so slow in comparison to production models I work with. Well worth the money. Also you can use it to plot out your drawings with pens.

Default SX=8?

Walkers210
I was looking at the specifications on the model you listed and it said you can only cut 6-1/4" high maximum. Is there a way to get a 9-1/2" high piece out of it, or is the new model a smaller machine? The SX-12 will do 9-13/16 high.

JohnVH
Check on e-bay for Stika machines. They have quite a few Stika machines and accessories available there.

OldRookie, the one I have is the STX-8, and the material I use is cut to 12 inch width and lenght as needed. I bought this machine in 1998 and have been using it since. Art - these are quite expensive little machines but in comparsion to other production type cutters its only a drop in the bucket. What I like is the size of machine, it will go just about anywhere. The software that comes with it is fair, but you can use any design program and use the WINDOW drivers and print from there. I have used mine to do all the lettering and graphics on a 1999 Peterbilt using outlines, and dropshadows. For you planes it is almost required if you really want details that are second to none. I didn't mean to sound like a comercial for the STIKA but I kinda like it.

John,
I have the little one, I bought at the WRAM show - $200. It's a neat little unit. The software that comes with it is pretty limited and not quite wysiwyg. I don't have Corel Draw. The graphics software has to be able to export a B/W .tif file.
My old Micrografix Draw does not.
I like it tho.. have done some neat stuff with it.

Default A great tool...

I have one and use it quite often. I am using the Dr. Stika software and Windows 98. Works well, but I wish I could do more with it. I am not the most computer literate individual and would really like to know how to take an image using Corel Draw and convert it to cut with the Stika. I have the 12 inch version myself. I also use it to cut out stencils for painting, it works great.

DocYates-

There is a way with Corel to print directly to the Stika, along with from other programs. The program should come with drivers for it. What I commonly do is save the image that I have made or scanned into a .bmp file and then use the "import" function of Dr Stika to convert it to a line image. Then it's ready to cut.

I found something interesting out last week. I had copied some text in word and forgot that it was still stored. When I hit paste in the Dr Stika program, it showed right up, outline and all, ready to cut.

Default Will have to...

THanks, will have to try this, I have not used the import function, with much success, but have been told that is the secret to getting all these nice graphics that guys are printing. I would like to have the file with the kid holding the R/C transmitter to cut out and put on the side of my R/C trailer.
