I think most people use a 12v source and adjust the temp of the wire by adjusting the distance between the clips on the leads.
Ive found that if im using a short bow, 24 inches or less, I can use the 12v 7 amp battery from my field box. If I use a longer bow I need to use a battery with more amps, like a car batt.
I think www.usrcjc.org has a diagram showing this method and also how to make a transformer for using household current 110~120.
