First Landing
I landed today on the grass twice. One was with the engine running and other was a dead stick. One step towards being solo!
Also, there were a few crashes also in midst of it all. I never had any crashes, but some minor hard landings.

RE: First Landing
Hopefully I will be landing on the concrete for a change soon. Sooner the better. The field I fly at has trees that are marshy and like a jungle. Some airplanes have crashed into it. Its really messy there. Once I solo, I will build my next airplane.

RE: First Landing
Today, I landed three times. One of them was on the grass, concrete, and concrete then grass. If I keep practicing I will be solo soon. My instructor even recommended I even practice alone. [8D]

When I learned my dad had me line up over the run way a few times once I could fly straight down the run way he had me cut the throttle, it landed. That was it, I was on my own after eight assisted flights (no buddy cord). All we did was fly the pattern, figure eights and landing.
I guess I have a differant experiance than many who take 20-30 flights and then maybe solo. Just do it.

RE: First Landing
Soloing certainly seems to vary widely from club to club and even between instructors in a club.
My instructor was a Pattern pilot, and I was one of those 20 + flights to solo; mainly because he taught me to use the rudder for crosswind landings, and how to use it to track straight through a loop, even in a crosswind. For my solo flight I had to take off, fly an oval and a figure eight while maintaining altitude (with coordinated rudder), had to loop, do an axial roll and a barrel roll, a stall turn, and finally land. He even had me land dead stick a couple times during training.
I've never been sorry for the "extra" time it took me to solo.
