Why can't they...................
Why is it so difficult for manufactures of covering films to make paint that matches. We modelers seem to be able to go and have paints custom matched with out problems, why can't they? It just irks me to no end when I finishing covering a plane and the cowl and pants don't match.[:@]

Maybe the covering guys want you to use covering... and the paint guys want you to use paint?
I dunno... just a thought. As you said, it's definitely possible to get matching colors.
There has to be *some* reason why nobody markets it in "monokote matching" colors.
(And it irks me that some pretend to do so... but most of the time, the match part just isn't there)

Well, Lustrecote (I believe) is made by Monocote, and is marketed by Monocote as matching paint. It's not some aftermarket company selling matching paint.
My guess as to why they don't match all that well is this; When they first develop a covering color, say Piper Cub Yellow, they develop a matching paint. I'd bet that the paint matches the covering perfectly, for a while. Then as they produce roll after roll of the Cub Yellow, the dye lots change a bit over time. They keep blending the exact same paint, but just don't get around to matching again. (Or at least not until they get enough complaints to make it worth the cost. )

Depends on how long you shake the can, well the paint matches. You can get a lot of different shade out of one can, and where and when you paint will change every thing.

When you use house paint it is recomended to mix the last half of a can with half of a new can to keep the color consistant. Paint pigments vary and they are not always exact.
