Default flying in Maryland

Hello MD flyers. I am looking to move down to MD in the next few months. I will most likely be some where between the Baltimore and the DC area. Can any one tell me where are the good fields around that area. I fly every thing from 40 size to 1/4 scale planes.

Also, When I was down there I noticed that it was quite windy all the time, is this normal? or is it just because its still spring time?

Two fields between Baltimore and DC that are not far from Rt 95:

Free State RC- located near the intersection of Rt 95 and Rt 198 (closer to DC) : http://www.freestateaeromodelers.org/

Southwest Area Park RC Club (closer to Baltimore) http://www.mdhobbytown.com/SWAP/index.htm

Check out Tower Hobbies web directory for a listing of other Maryland clubs: http://www.towerhobbies.com/rcwairclub.html

Both support all sizes of planes and have nice fields to fly out of. Hope to see you there sometime.

There's a very nice field in Bowie in Prince Georges County, maybe 15 mile east of DC. See [link=http://www.aero-sports.com/pgrc/]PGRC web site[/link]. DC/RC flies in Germantown, which is 15 miles or so north of DC in Montgomery County. See [link=http://dc-rc.org/]their web site[/link]. Both are fairly large (200 members or so) clubs, with active membership and excellent leadership.

As far as wind, I don't think it's particularly windy. It depends on the season, of course, with summer being the calmest (on the hottest days, you'll be praying for a breeze, any breeze), but 5 to 10 mph winds seem to be the norm.

I belong to Free State and PGRC. Free State is closer so I fly there when I don't have the time to drive to PGRC. To me, PGRC has the nicest field in the DC Area- probably one of the nicest you'll find anyware- big pits, large pavilion, paved and grass runways, no noise issues, big overfly area, and is a well run and friendly club with lots of activities- racing (well known in racing circles and host of one of the legs of the JR Gold Cup), IMAC (one of the more established and largest contests in North Region of US), IMAA, Open House, etc..

I have flown at CBRC too. I found friendly fliers and a nice field to fly at. Not so good for larger planes- there are some noise issues I believe.

DCRC has a fantastic field- built by the county is my understanding. Very long paved runway but no grass runway. I have many friends over there and fly there from time to time as a guest. Seperate heli area on other side of parking lot is nice too.

We are actually fairly lucky in the DC Balt area to have quite a number of locations to fly at- more in Virginia and some unmentioned in Maryland.

Also any one has information on the Maryland TOC? I have hared about it but no info was mentioned.
