Come on!!!!! I KNOW there's got to be more ugly airplane out there!

This is my only fully operational plane at the moment (although my powered glider that I've built from scratch is at the tweaking stage now, but is still bare balsa at the moment), my Prangster. I bought it second-hand so I had no control over the colour scheme. Too much hassle to change it, so here it is at the moment:

Yip. But no really my only plane as I'm building a powered glider. Originally just a glider, but I want to get a bit longer flight times as where I live doesn't give much potential for slope soaring or thermals . . . . and my design isn't that effecient anyway.
Here's it at the moment:
A TT GP07 is going on the nose soon - that will make the thing nicely fly around I hope, then I'll have two planes. I'll style this new one diferently methinks.

I'm voting enyaengine's uh, "plane" to be BY far, THE UGLIEST thing to "grace" the skies, resplendent in it's beauty!!!!!![X(][X(]

Yeah, the homebuilt one flies quite well as it stands at the moment. Hopefully today the Gp07 will arrive. Then it should fly a dream. The wing doesn't stall until about 5 knots, so it won't take much to get it flying well.
It looks ugly, yeah, but it was put together from bits of balsa in about an hour. I was suprised it even flew! I wanted to build something slow I could fly around locally, for when I can't get to the flying field. My Prangster is too quick and dangerous to fly anywhere but the flying field, but this balsa model moves so slowly and predictably (and is huge, yet very light), I don't need to worry about it. Handles a dream, far better than my Prangster, but ATM, the control surfaces are small. I'll see how the handling changes when it's got an engine pulling it along, maybe the CS's will be more effective.
I'll let you know how it goes ppl.

After reading about everyones ugly planes i started another one for my kids. i have found out after years of scratch building that allmost everyone has the skill to build ugly planes. i started to post a photo of the fuselage but i did not want to offend anyone. i will wait until it's covered like the wing before i do that .good thing about building ugly is how fast you can build one, took less than 5 minutes to cover bottom of wing.

i think that many people are to uptight when they fly their really nice planes, this tends to make them freeze up on the controls when they get into a bind. instead of recovering the plane to a stable flight they start thinking about the crash that has not happend yet. i dont worry about a crash until after it has happend and then for not very long. ugly planes allow you to concentrate on flying, to learn how to fly out of bad situations and gain confidence. heck, a crash or two might even make it look better

What IS that covering, shelf paper, or Ronald Mc D's underware? I've used some really heinous tissue wrapping paper from the dollar store, but that's good!

Ronalds drawers, that's a good one[8D]. it is some gift wrapping that came from God knows where. you can get the stuf in any color or pattern and the cheap stuff is thin and lite. i use wood glue and alcohol mixed 50/50 on the balsa, apply the paper and run a regular clothing iron over it. as soon as you hit it with the iron the glue dries, it's much faster than mixing with water. spray a light coat of polyurthane on it and your ready to go. i have never found a cheaper way to cover a plane and it is almost as lite as tissue. repair at the field is simple as going into the porto-can[

As proof of the power of ugly,I present for Your viewing pleasure.... Franken-Stang... I have had F-S since 9/14/2006 and it is still flying as of 02/19/07. I think that is some sort of record for me. I used Gorilla Glue and paint stir sticks to make a new front end. The guys at the field think it is a hoot. and with a 2409/12,it is also FAST.

ps...It is one ugly mutha.. It is a Rat's Rat, but it sure do fly good!!!!! Plus, being ugly has its advantages... when it goes up all the pretty planes land, and No One would even consider stealing it!!!!!

Ok this is the first r/c airplane i ever own. One day while I was skydiving I told myself that I wanted to stop at this LHS and have a look around. So I did and there on one of the counters was what you see in the pics only it was wrecked and much younger back then. So I paid ten dollars for it and took it home. I maneaged to get it back together and put all the radios gear in it. So I whent to the fliying dield and asked someone to fly it for me. They did and to my amazement it flew well. Boy I was on cloud nine now. Well to make a long story short 25 years later here she is. I love her and will die still owning her. Some day I plan to restore her to all her glory. Yes she is a Tigar moth. 40 size.
